Is U of Washington in St. louis a good school?

I am just wondering if U of Washington in St. louis is a good university because they have been sending me many letters and even introduced me to their scholar program, but I don't really know much about this school......

I believe they are top 20 <- not sure. They also have one of the best medical programs in the country (top 3)

Its a quality school but dont think too much into their letters. They got where they are now (11th according to US News) thanks to those letters/other marketing strategies/statistical manipulation. Basically what im saying is their a good school, lower part of the top 20, and they send those letters to everyone.

FYI - It's called Washington University in St. Louis. It's not a U of Washington.

My D visited the school last spring and loved it. They are in the top 20 acc. to Us News & World Report. Some people believe they are at that place because of heavy marketing and scholarships they offer to attract top students. You shd visit if you get a chance and see for yourself if you like it. As I said my D loved it a lot.

If you had said U. Washington- St. Louis to a WashU student, you wouldn't be alive any longer. haha

lol sorry, but i didn't consider to there anyway......

WashU is great...I just finished up some summer courses there, and they were excellent. Every person to whom I've talked who has gone to WashU has really liked it for the really challenging academics and the good social life.

And yeah, be careful with how you say the school's name...Washington University or WashU or Washington University in St. Louis or WUSTL (wooh-stul) are all fine. But WashU has no affiliation with any of the U of Washington's. WashU stands by itself.

Just lettin you know. But yeah, WashU is a great school.

It's a top 25 school. You'll get a great education and a valuable degree there.

Academic-wise it's a great school, can't go wrong. One turn-off is the complete lack of school spirit. Also, a lot of kids I know don't like St. Louis either. I didn't think it was that bad when I visited.

To some people a lack of school spirit is a good thing.

WUSL has a large influx of students from the East Coast--mainly because it's kind of an Ivy-league substitute. It tends to be a bit left-leaning politically--so don't plan to enjoy it there if you're a big Bush fan, and the school tends to have a flexible curriculum, though not to the degree of a school like Brown.

The school is probably best known for its biology, engineering, psychology and business programs. As you would expect for a school with a yearly tuition of over $30,000 per year in the middle of the midwest, it has a student body that tends to come from well-to-do families;--and admission decisions take this into account--meaning the ability to pay tuition, room and board is considered.

As pointed out, it ranks highly overall in USNW (#11 among national universities)--and the programs I mentioned above are nationally ranked in the top 25 to 30 as well.

Yessss it is. It also has an awesome medical school, and I received some brochure in the mail about how you can apply to both undergrad + graduate at the same time. I also know someone who chose WUSTL over Stanford because apparently research opportunities are more plentiful/available there. WUSTL does seem to lack personality though.

St. Louis isn't the most exciting city in the world. Also, the campus isn't really in the city. WashU probably has the most beautiful campus I've ever seen though. It was amazing to see those student houses that look like mansions.

i dunno why some ppl were saying "top 20" or lower top 20...it's #11 in the nation according to US News (whatever that actually means). The average SAT scores are very high and the school has moved up the ranks relatively quickly. I don't think you could go wrong with going to WUSTL, but ultimately any school in the top 25/30 is a very good school and you'll receive a great education regardless. Pick the school because you really like it.

It's not need blind?

hello, i had the chance to visit WUSTL last month , i loved it.. really friendly people , top academics....I'm applying there!!!

Wash U has a reputation of having the "Tufts Syndrome" when it comes to undergrad admissions. They don't like the idea of being a backup choice for students. If you apply there, make it sound like it's the only school for you, or you could find yourself waitlisted at best.
