I am currently at saddleback community college, and I intend to transfer to UCI as a civil engineering major in two years. I was wondering if UCI really is good for civil engineering. I've heard mixed opinions about UCI's engineering program in general. Will a civil engineering bachelors degree from UCI guarantee me a good job right after graduation, or will I have to struggle to find a job? Also, I don't intend on getting a masters in engineering because I want to get my MBA instead.

Gone are the days when majoring in engineering could “guarantee” you a job, regardless of what anyone on here says. Of course, with an engineering degree your job prospects are generally “better” than many other majors (at the Bachelor’s level). This is not only due to the bad economy, but many other factors such as outsourcing etc…but that is a discussion for another day!

That said, UCI is ranked “reasonably high” for Engineering (nationwide and worldwide). While UCI is not ‘a Berkeley’ or ‘a UCLA’, from a PURELY JOB-SEEKING perspective, I’m not convinced it matters all that much what school you go to (as long as it is a reasonably good one).
