I got accepted into UCSC and I just read an article about how it’s #8 in the top 100 of universities in the world under 50 years of age. Is it a good education?
It’s a good school. The only possible negatives I can think of are that it’s a weird campus - more like a summer camp than a traditional campus, and it has a reputation as a hippie school.
Yes I think it is quite a good school. All the UCs offer a good education. UCSC has a bit of an intellectual vibe in my opinion and was recommended by my student’s guidance counselor at a private school as such. It also is a bit smaller and more intimate than a lot of the UCs. Congratulations.
I loved it more than my son did when we visited. I suspect his response owed more to the torrential rain that day than any shortcomings at the university. I love their structure based on smaller residential colleges. UCSD has the same structure, but they have fewer and larger colleges.
For people that I’ve worked with in CS, they are very good. The only negative thing, I’ve heard is the drug culture.
