Is UCF a big party school?

I honestly look down on people that relies too much on rankings and believe rumors such as “That’s true, but from what I hear, UCF is just a school for people who love to party and didn’t get into either UF, FSU, or UM.”

While it may hold true that some people consider UCF as a backup school if they don’t get into UF, FSU, (or whatever other college you may want to name) there are a ton of kids that turns down those schools for UCF- and I’m sure you’ve been across those posts before.

As far as partying goes, yeah, I’m not gonna lie- people at UCF do party. But like everyone said, you just gotta find your own group. I personally don’t party and I’ve met a bunch of people that doesn’t as well.

Honestly the whole ranking thing seems to be a joke. It’s a good guideline to kinda look at, but anything more than that is just absurd.

P.S. When I say ranking, I meant schools being ranked in terms of academics. What in the mother world is the playboy’s top ranking party school list anyways?

Btw, I bet some of you guys didn’t even know there’s a UWF out there. =P

Oh, I thought you were talking about the ranking list of ‘schools people go to when they don’t get in to UF or FSU.’ It’s clear now  XD

And yeah, the US News rankings, which are most widely quoted, are a tad ridiculous.

[How U.S. News Calculates the College Rankings - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/education/articles/2010/08/17/how-us-news-calculates-the-college-rankings?PageNr=3)

There’s a story from last year on how they do the rankings. You’ll notice that about a quarter of the score is judged by people from ‘peer’ institutions, which works great for keeping the ivy leagues truly ivy, and the lower ranked schools at each other’s necks.

Another 25% comes from how expensive(10) and selective(15) a school is. Meaning, is a school wants to offer affordable education to students of all performance levels in high school, even if it’s of INCREDIBLE quality, they’ll be ranked lower for this, such as in the case of schools like UCF and USF, with great quality, but without ridiculously high standards. The rankings reinforce the idea that only the best of the best deserve to go to college, and everyone else might as well just rot XD

The -rest- of the rankings are based on things that actually have merit, but, once you get to that point, only 50% of the score left, it’s a bit like… Bahaha.

It’s all up to interpretation i guess, and plus you might want to consider all of the connections made by attending a certain school. For example, UF with it’s HUGE alumni base have connections all across the world, but UCF but its short history doesn’t provide as many connections as an older school like UF would.

Just a thought, oh and here’s the link to “Playboy’s Top Ten Party Schools of 2011”

[Top Party Schools 2011: Playboy List](<a href=“Top Party Schools 2011: Playboy List | HuffPost College”>Top Party Schools 2011: Playboy List | HuffPost College)

@ Mizz, Yeah I did (: I have a couple of friends that went/are going there
@ Ari, of courseee <3

Thats true Jkid, but I have mah connections already! Plus when it comes to my field in tech, UCF has all the business connections I need.

I don’t see why it would matter. In my opinion, a party school offers some nice amenites depending on the climate of the parties. I would not want to go to a school that is way on the other end of the spectrum. If the school is fairly large, you will have a lot of choices as to partake or not, party or not.
and UCF is certainly big enough. That there are things happening on and around campus is a plus as it is an alternative you can enjoy if you so please.

Forming connections is important, but of course that’s solely up to me to form the connections once I start my college career, no matter where I go.

And quite frankly JKid, you seem like you’re just here to put off UCF. I don’t know whether it’s because of that rude speaker you spoke to over the phone or now that you’re going to UF that you feel the need to reassure yourself that you made the better choice- whatever it is, go to the UF forums if that would make you feel better. For someone that seriously considered attending UCF and now asking questions such as if “UCF is just a school for people who loves to party” is quite ridiculous. I would think that you’d have quite a good grasp of UCF since you did at one point, was sure of attending UCF, or so you said.

And not to put any schools down- I think UCF, UF, FSU, USF are all great schools and each provides something special of their own. There’s no reason why I’d choose one school over another merely because of its reputation. It’s all about where you feel most comfortable at and which would provide you with a better opportunity for your major.

Oh i’m being putting UCF down Mizzxvii? I’m just stating statistics and facts here. Don’t get me wrong, UCF is a wonderful school with a lot of potential, but it’s just not there yet. Grant it, UCF has a great computer engineering program among other things. I’m just simply here to get a perspective of UCF from a student already ADMITTED in and to find out for myself if UCF’s party school reputation holds up as it did on Playboy’s Top Ten.

I’m just asking the questions that my friends needs answers to in order to make his decision, nothing wrong with that. If I’m coming off as snobby, well that’s your opinion. Like I said, UCF is a great school, nice campus, and very nice dorms and I’m just here to gain knowledge of how life at UCF is in terms of its parties and social scene.

Ooh Meee-yow guys.

But yeah, in the end it’s like… You always have the choice NOT to party at a party school, but you can’t choose to party at a non-partying school, unless you learn to slip a LOT of people a LOT of drugs :D:D

Ari,

Just so that you know, UM’s acceptance rate and ranking is right up there with UF. It is not a public university so perhaps that is why you don’t hear it mentioned along with UCF and FSU. It is also a very small school and typically they attract a few local kids and lots of out of state students who qualify for their scholarships or have the ability to pay the $40,000+/year price tag.

Yeah, but it’s neither acceptance rate nor ranking I’m interested in, it’s quality of my specific field :stuck_out_tongue: I get that though, I was simply saying that schools are seen in different lights in different regions, which is exactly what you said. First Coast doesn’t really see UM as much of what we want.

Ari,

Don’t know if you’ve been admitted to The honors college or not, but we went to the honors graduation banquet last night. It was a very nice dinner and banquet where all the honors students were given their honors medallions for graduation this weekend. Students were introduced with thesis advisors in so many research areas, including digital media and technology. Whether you did four years of honors classes (9 classes) and kept the GPA requirements or did one yearofundergrad research with an affair or a combo of the two, lots of options were available.

Zebes

^^^
Sorry about typos in post above. Was using H’s ipad and didn’t proof for auto-correct. :)

bump Don’t let this thread die until someone answers with exp at UCF!!!

Just curious, but isn’t every college a “party school”? There’s so many people at UCF I’m sure you’ll find the ones that tickle your fancy. By the by (referring to your comment on the first page), I got into FSU (I hate Gainesville so I didn’t apply to UF. And never thought of even applying to UM because it’s a private school) and I also don’t tend to party much. I’m going and spending my money and the governments money to learn…not to be a drunken mess half the time.

Just wondering what else you’re looking for in an answer? You don’t need personal XP at UCF to know if the college is a party school or not. I have friends there that just study 24/7 and ones that go to clubs, parties, ect…

And Ari I completely agree with what you said here, considering if I remember correctly, we’ll be going into the same field. ;]

“Yeah, but it’s neither acceptance rate nor ranking I’m interested in, it’s quality of my specific field”

@Ciaraxo Its always nice to hear from the perspective of a UCF student though, that’s what i was getting at.

When thursday hits, everyone goes to the bars/clubs. People have parties ALL the time. My roommate went 3 weeks with having a party over here every night. It’s ridiculous. Find the right roommates.
