So basically my parents said I can either go to UCF or community college because they don't want me moving -__-

Anyways, I'm a high school junior. 3.6 weighted GPA/3.3 unweighted. Planning on dual enrolling next year. In key club, hi-q, deca, french honor society. Haven't taken my SATs yet; scheduled for May 7th. Am I in good standing? and for SATs what score is reasonable for UCF? Also do they have a good communications program? I want to go into Advertising/Public Relations.

Thanks!

Yeah I think you’ll make it, based of your gpa, I’d try and shoot for atleast 1100 on math and reading. If you can get that and keep up your grades then you’ll get in. I’m not too sure about the communications program though sorry.

Thanks a lot! I take AP classes too and plan on take two more next year in school. I’m really praying I’ll get in because as you can see, it’s my ONLY choice :/

It really sucks that they’re not giving you much choice =[ I love UCF, and I think it’s an amazing place, but I don’t know how well someone forced to be there would succeed.

i would say that doing dual enrollment gets you some “points” with ucf. i’m finishing my senior year now and start at ucf in the fall. so definitely do some dual enrollment, as well as the AP’s. also, choosing to send ucf your scores when you take SAT’s and AP’s kinda let’s them know you’re interested. those extra curriculars look good, and i think coltsfan’s suggestion about an 1100 sounds good. but don’t limit yourself to just 1100; def shoot higher.

@Arikriekinel I know it’s sad esp. since I wanted to go to the University of Tampa which is much smaller, an environment I feel I’d be more comfortable in. They made me feel like it’d be an option but they completely ruled it out now. It’s all about me leaving home at such a young age, they think it’s unsafe. It’s depressing but I think I’ll get over it.

@Knightgirl2011 - Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it.

lalaliciaa: hey I’m a senior going to UCF in the fall, and my parents are the same; i have to stay home they said they’d let me live on campus if i do Summer A once, but that’s it. i get you, but at the same time, tell yourself you have free mom meals, and no one to share your space with! + more money for later life (:

Your parents are telling you where to go to school? Some people go to out of state schools at 17/18. >_> Plus, you’d be an adult by then…wow, that’s irritating. I’m sorry
Anyways UCF seems to be a great school :), and as long as you apply early you should be in.

UCF puts a higher emphasis on standardized testing, so if you get a good SAT/ACT score, you’re basically guaranteed admission. With a gpa like that, I wouldn’t be too worried tho. As for your choice of colleges, don’t stress on that too much either. UCF is pretty awesome. It sucks that your parents aren’t letting you go anywhere else but it’s also good lol. Trust me, I miss not having to cook, do laundry, dishes or any of that stuff so enjoy living staying at home while you can. Good luck.

@Gabriels - Thanks! Yeah, I totally need to get into SAT mode then. Thinking about it, UCF is looking better and better :)

I wouldn’t say that, Gabriels. My friends and I are all pretty high testers. I got on the lower end of our scoring scale with a 2070/1370, and so far, I’m deferred, and none of them have heard back.

I agree with Gabriels, they do put higher empahsis on test scores . Your UW GPA is like really low though which is probably why you were deferred .

But the others had higher GPAS:P

Ohh. That’s weird then. When did they apply? & I meant *emphasis.

Little before me. My school tried to get everyone applied by mid-October.

& they have good GPA’s high test scores and haven’t heard back. Omg.

Yep yep. None of us sent any letters of recommendation though, and our counselors wouldn’t do the counselor forms.

What are counselor forms? & yeah I didn’t either but I didn’t think most people did. I just sent one in along with a personal letter on Monday so hopefully that will help? Idk

UCF in a way is hard to get into because of the number of applicants. 25,000 students apply on average and according to the admissions president I spoke to, 20,000 could be potential students but only about 5,000 or so actually get accepted. A lot of people are taking interest in UCF but there’s only so much limited space. You’re GPA’s pretty good but it may only be competitive for the Summer term since the average GPA for the Summer term is a 3.8. The Fall term is much more competitive to get into. Good luck!

Agreed. Fall term is hard to get into, but I know mad dumb kids from high school who somehow managed to get in through summer term.
Arifriekinel, maybe your friends stuff got lost in the mail? Its weird, but UCF is notorious for that kind of stuff. And I don’t know how you got deferred with an SAT score like that, its really good.
