Is UCF hard to get into?

I'm sorry if it's a stupid question or anything but I want to know all that I can before I consider applying. I'm a 3.48 GPA student. My SAT score stinks , but I have a lot of extracurriculars and activities. I don't know if I qualify for this kinda of college, I don't know much about it. So any information is welcome, please!

tell me your stats

is 3.48 your UW , weighted, OR SUSF GPA?

i got in with a 3.48 gpa. i had a 29 on the ACT. and endless amounts of community service and extra curriculars though.

Well, I can tell you this.
If I don’t qualify based on my stats, could you tell me other good colleges in Florida I can get into? This is basically it; Florida is my plan B and I would like to have secure options.

Hispanic Student
3.48 GPA weighted
1330 SAT (yeah, I know it sucks but hey, don’t frustrate me more … I stink at this test)
I’m a good essay writer.
Have awesome letters of recommendation.
Tons of community service.

You could look at Florida Gulf Coast, I don’t think it’s that difficult to get into. You might as well apply to UCF, it can’t hurt.

What’s your SAT breakdown?

Most public schools in Florida require min. 440 Verbal & 440 Math.
Even FGCU.

If you don’t mind whats the breakdown of your SAT? wat did you get in each individual section? You should consider applying to Valencia College and then you would be able to transfer into UCF after 2 years without a problem. I don’t know what to say about what UCF is looking for as a bare minimum cutoff point but a friend of mine got around 1050 ( reading and math ) and didnt get in. I live in Miami and FIU here has a cutoff of around 1600 ( all three sections ) so I assume UCF might employ a similar standard. Don’t give up though! and theres no shame in going to a community college first and then a bigger university.

I think you have good chances, but if i were you i would try to take the SAT again, off course if its possible.

Kinda, I’m guessing you are a junior. There are some things you might consider doing to make your application stronger for the state universities. Take the ACT in June and at least once more in early Fall–some people do much better on ACT than SAT. Put a real strong effort into your last few weeks in school now to get the best grades you can for this semester. Consider, if you can, taking some solid dual enrollment classes this summer at a community college to pump up your GPA–just make sure you don’t shoot yourself in foot by getting bad grades. Check out and review link attached at end of this post for USF (I don’t have one for UCF). You can see you can get “bonus points” for things like simply taking one year of a second foreign language in high school. Take the matrix to your guidance counselor, review it with him/her to see what you can do to get in UCF or any other school. One of the best things you can do right now is go see the guidance counselor and ask them to help you get in college.

Kinda, I noticed on your post you enjoy theater. St. John’s River Community College has its own “Florida School of the Arts” which is popular with music theater students. Maybe a program like that would fit the bill for you. There are terrific schools out there for everyone beyond the 11 state universities in Florida.

If you’re seriously interested, my advice would be to take the ACT and the SAT in or before June. Schedule SAT and/or ACT or September. In August or very early September fill out the application and work on those essays and be sure to apply by early October.

D did this and was initially deferred. She also applied for Summer term because we read that it might increase her chances. Her test scores are what held her back. She took the ACT again, went up in scoring and was accepted a few weeks later. Even though she applied in early October, she wasn’t accepted until mid-December. That’s why it’s so important to apply EARLY if you might be on the fence. That rule of thumb is with ANY school.

Hmm… I’m not sure why people are worrying… I got in with 3.2 weighted and 1180 (M-610, CR- 570), No EC’s or sports… honestly I don’t know how I got in over some people that got deferred or accepted… I’m semi-OOS (High school in CT, qualified for in-state tuition).

Well UCF2013 u have a pretty solid SAT score. ECs dont matter too much really, those are just like tie breakers like the essay if they really do need them. But most people have lower SAT scores, about a 100 points lower than what you have and that puts applicants on the fence. Every year its getting harder and harder to get into universities. Even schools like UCF which people dont consider as one of the best are getting more difficult to get into because of the trickle down effect.

it’s not that hard. i was accepted with a 3.0 in high school. i had a lot of community service though.

I got in with a 3.0 and with 1900 SAT and 29 ACT. I don’t have too many ECs but the more you have the more it helps.

lol i had an 18 ACT. 1100 SAT. really good essay though.

sophiegirl, when were you accepted to ucf…aren’t you transferring in with an AA?

Thanks, guys ! Sorry I didn’t post anything soon. Anyways, I won’t need to know anyways; I got accepted at one of my top choices! UCF was maybe gonna be my plan B. Anyways, I appreciate the help!

congrats! wat was ur top choice?
