I've been talking to ppl at my high school and a lot of them overlook UCF saying its a commuter school and it's the school where people don't study. Is this true?

Commuter school - I really don’t think it is. It might have been at one point, but I don’t think it is now. There are 6000 beds in on-campus housing and 3750 in university affiliated housing. That’s 9750 beds…bigger than many college’s total enrollment. Additionally, there are plenty of school clubs and things to get involved in around campus. It’s not like everyone just goes to class and goes home. The sports teams are on the rise ([ESPN: Knights Have Potential to Become Elite – UCF Today](ESPN: Knights Have Potential to Become Elite | University of Central Florida News)) and school spirit is at an all time high.

I could definitely see the whole not studying thing. UCF is often found on the lists of party schools or “schools that study the least.” Welcome to Florida. UF and FSU are on the lists as well. You’ll hear UCF be called “U Cant Finish” just like you’ll hear USF with U Shouldnt Finish, UF with U F, and FSU with F S*** Up. It’s florida. It’s a party state. UCF and USF might have it a little worse since their standards are lower (the gap is closing) but if you’re looking for BYU or West Point discipline then you’re in the wrong part of the country.

Lol thanks. No I’m going to UCF I just don’t want a roommate that party’s every night. I like to party just not everyday. I love UCF. I’ve been telling my friends it’s a great school and the avg GPA is 3.9, but they still just see it as a whatever school

That really depends on your roommate bro. It’s a random draw. Unless you find a friend you just have to roll the dice and know that you can change at the end of the semester/year if things don’t turn out well.

And the public opinion will always lag years behind the reality. People will catch on eventually.

And the commuter school just beat #4 UCONN ;)

I watched the game it was amazing. And our soccer team is in the elite 8

I’ve never heard of UCF being described as a commuter school, you don’t need to be worried about your friends, there are plenty of people that live on or around campus

More and more kids from outside the Orlando area opting for UCF over FSU.

FSU is so far away for most people, and hard to get to.

Orlando is much closer to where most Floridians live, and Orlando has so much more to do than Tallahasee.

However, FSU is still better known nationally than UCF.

You say that, but it really depend on which program you’re comparing at the schools

For most programs FSU is still more widely known. UCF used to commuter school but is no longer, if the campus is considered “dead” on the weekend it’s because the beach is 45 min away and the city is 15.

As for the party thing, I am of the opinion its better to be able to turn a party down than to have to find one haha

My D goes to UCF and we heard this when she was considering it. The fact that we are from out of state (NJ) concerned us even more. We know NJ schools and they are all dead on weekends.

She signed up for the out of state housing and found that people were always around, even on some holiday. Further, she found that people were generally around on the weekends, even if they are from Fla.

In the end, she felt if you make friends with people who are likely to stay around, you will have things to do (and not just party). This is in contrast to her friends that go to Rutgers and bolt home every weekend.

It’s a huge school, so even if it was a commuter school, which I don’t believe it is, there would still be lots of people on campus.

It’s good for the reassurance, especially to that out of state students. UCF, I believe used to be a commuter school. However, the enrollment is, doubtlessly, higher then ever before, especially when it was given its ‘commuter’ status. With over 50,000 students, it will not be dead on weekends. I also found, on a particular site, UCF students claiming that, even on weekends, 80% of the students are still there. I’ll try and locate the site for you, it might have been on student reviews. Com

^^^

That’s true actually. I wouldn’t know the exact % of students that stays for weekends, but I live about 2 hrs away from home and I only go home like once a month or during holidays.

And honestly Kyle, every school is a party school- it’s college. Do you think Harvard kids sit around and study all day long? Hell no. I don’t know how they even calculate the top party schools.
