Is UCI a good school for psychology?

Hello everyone,

I plan on applying to several schools, as a psychology transfer student, for the 2017 academic year. I will be applying to other UC’s such as UCI, UCSB and UCR, along with other universities. UCI (University of California, Irvine) is a school that I’ve visited and always liked.

However, I don’t really have an extensive knowledge with regards to their psychology program. I do know that they offer two majors within their psychology program, Psychology & Social Behavior and Cognitive Sciences. In the future I do plan on going to graduate school as well, but for now I’m focusing on what school I want to apply to and hopefully transfer to.

Is UCI’s psychology program a good one? I know this is a general question, but is it a good school for a psychology major, like me, to go to as an undergrad? I’m unsure of my career path in psychology, but would like to focus on the clinical side of it.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am a new PSB student, I’ve looked into it. It depends on your plans for grad school. If you want to go into education and research I say go for psychology and that UCI has a good program. UCI has the PSB program too which I like as its kind of like social psychology based, but you can tailor your classes however you want, so it’s great for going into a therapy type grad program like MFT LCP or MSW. If you are going for PsyD this program is fine too, but unless you are very interested in social ecology which is the school that runs the PSB department, I say their PhD program may not be my first choice. If I were going for a PhD in grad school I would aim at a general psychology degree from as good a UC as I could get in for undergrad. UCI is better than UCR for both programs. The campus is awesome I its design, and I really like it. Bottom line apply PSB for everything other than PhD long term plans. That’s my opinion.
