Is UCI really THAT boring?

UCI is one of my top choices and if I get in I'll probably end up going there. I live about 45 minutes away from the campus so I figure I'd come home for maybe one night on the weekend.

Anyway, I've heard from a number of people that UCI is a fairly boring school which not much going on socially. I don't need to go to a school like UCSB with tons of parties, but I don't want it to be completely dead. That's what I really liked about Davis; it seemed like a very lively campus and a had a real college feel to it. UCI's campus was nice, but it didn't seem like much was going on.

I know it's pretty empty on the weekends as it is a commuter school, but what's it like the rest of the week? I can't imagine it can be as bad as people say it is.......

You'll basically feel the normal college day going on during the week. People go to class and come back home to do HW. However, some dorms may be very noisy. It's very easy to get distracted in these dorms with the socializing going on among the residents. However, the real reason why UCI feels dead is people, maybe including you, who go home on the weekends. The weekend is a free time for socializing or doing activities, but you'll be missing out. Everyone is busy during the week with schoolwork!

edit: Oh god, my post makes UCI look so bad haha. Well I'll try to save it here. The weekday can be really jam packed with work and socializing if you go about it correctly. If you push studies off to the weekend (if you actually do it on the weekend), you can really do the many activities going on around campus. You can join a fraternity/sorority or join an active club. Remember, the college life is truly what you make of it. If you feel like the campus is dead, you need to go out to find activities and clubs to do.

There's plenty to do, you just have to find it.

no way!
you make your college experience the way you want it to turn out.
for me, Irvine was an excellent decision <3

ooo. i suppose it depends on u. personally i wouldn't go to UCI
. Irvine is truly REALLY boring and conservative. plus there are cops EVERYWHERE you turn so if you smoke or drink, ur kinda screwed. plus if ur a freshman and still under 18, therez a 11pm curfew here (and if u are still out, the police will pretty much arrest u and drag u back home. Fun). And therez a limited # of places u could go. Though if you like to shop, the Spectrum is definately one of the best :)

My friends go there, they say its pretty cool, of course they go to the club all the time.

Meet people your first quarter, like alot, and not just the type where you talk to them Welcome Week and never see them again. I mean the type where you can get a hold of them when your bored. If you make enough friends, you can go down your contact list and find someone.

I was just there tues-yesterday, and there was definitely a nightlife. It may not be as crazy as a traditional party school, but there are many things to do. Its greek week so many of the frats were out in the main school entrance advertising for the school and offering memberships to fraternities. I guess the big party days at school are tuesday, thursday, and saturday. I went jogging and happened to walk by arroyo vista, and one of the parties looked pretty crowded. Although the campus is a little quieter than others at night, you will still be able to party if you really want to.

yea i dont know guys....
I went to UC Davis and UCI ...and Davis has a lot and a lot more diversity
And I dont mean to be mean or anything but Asians are kool....nice ppl to hang out...in fact ppl from every race are kool...race doesnt really matter.
But the Asians that I saw at Irvine when I went there..not so kool...its like they had no idea what was going on around them and they dont even want to kno....they just didnt seem to social
again as i said in the other post...it could just be that day....but im prolly still coming to Irvine b/c of my major

Well, I ended up dorming with a majority of asians as part of the overnight program. Nearly all of them (except the RA), were very sociable and willing to hang out with me while I stayed there. They included me in many of their daily activities, none of which were lacking socially.

UCI has about 600 more Asians than UCD... To be honest that isn't much of a difference. I've been to UCD plenty times myself while I was on break and they were in school. It's more like the norcal/socal difference. Being a norcal student, you'll find socal different. Also, being in socal in my opinion as a norcaller, you'll find the social life more active with the locations around UCI.
