i am an undergrad that is probably going to applie for UCI and get accepted. But i am struggling with which major i should choose. I would love to do business major, but there is many type and dont know which one to choose. I love math and is good at doing mathametical stuff. Which major is best for me in UCI, and does UCI have good business program?

No offense but you shouldn’t sound so cocky unless you are eligible for ELC at UCI. Sometimes even the over-qualified somehow get rejected…
There aren’t that many Business majors at UCI though. There is Business Information Management, Business Administration, and Business Economics. The former two are more competitive majors to get into. As for whether or not UCI has a good business program (the Paul Merage School of Business) I’m sure there is at least one thread talking about this. The school is fairly new for undergrads, so it’s still making a name for its undergraduate program.
I do not think we can all give you accurate assessments on what major is for you, but if you really like math maybe you should just become a Math major? Or if you have taken any Economics classes and like that kind of math and statistics, you can pursue that. There is also the possibility of trying for Business Administration and specializing in Accounting, although there is not really that much (advanced) math involved in Accounting.

How do you feel about physics? chem? Have you thought about engineering?

You love math? Try out Quantitative Economics… or Mathematics!

As for wanting to do business, is there a specific reason? The closest ‘business’ major that you want to apply for is Business Administration.

The Business Administration major is new, so no graduates yet, but it is projected to be pretty ranked high.
The Business school itself is pretty prestigious, ranked top 50 or 100 in the world. (cant remember)

i was thinking about mathematic and engineering also, but i dont know whats the difference between engineering and bigengineering.

To the first post person: i am not being cocky, its just simply wondering if i make UCI then which major i should choose on college apps. Plus if you read the forum carefully you will see the word “probably going to applie and get accpeted”, the word “Probably” soften the sentence a lot.

Conquer, it’s because you worded it incorrectly then if you weren’t being cocky. I think you mean you are “going to apply and probably get accepted” not the other way around (probably apply and get accepted). Ah the power of words :p

Bigengineering? You mean bioengineering right? My friend was in that before he switched over to bio completely and he still had to take some bio courses. That’s all I know haha. It looks like engineering might be good for you since there’s a ton of math for that, although I have no idea what business would be like. As for math itself as a major, I heard from a friend it’s extremely based on theorems and your entire way of thinking is different compared to just taking basic calculus & chugging out problems. Don’t worry about it too much because hopefully later you can change your major if you need to with little hassle.

math -> MS in financial math = quant on wall street making millions
BME -> MS BME = trying to find a job for the extremely narrow market that employs BMEs and they have no transferable skills

You probably won’t get into UCI with that sort of English

English is not a big factor in decisions… you only have to write 2 essays. Hence all the fobs here haha.

I always wonder how fobs get in, because I think it’d be obvious from their essays… but there are a ton of fobs at UCI.

lol if you are surprise that fobs get in to UCI then you might need to rethink. Cause fobs actually works harder than ABC. And actually i think fobs have higher chance into better school than ABC cause people actually work hard and wannt to achieve their goal. My brother is a fob but he got in to berkerly, so i dont think its whether you are fob or ABC, its about your learning attitude.

Thx for all the commom tho guys, i learn a lot and appreciated it :)

FOBs are awesome!
