Being an out of state student, I have friends and relatives that think UCLA is a party school. Now my question to you guys whom I assume are mostly from the state of California, is UCLA a party school? What is the general consensus when people mention UCLA. I personally do not think its a party school but I can understand why people might think so especially since it's in a large city, sport scene, perfect weather, etc.

If you were being serious… I’m sorry dude. But that just made me laugh. It’s definitely a FUN school, but not a PARTY school. Even to the point that when I tell recent UCLA graduates I’m going to UCLA, they say “good luck…” instead of “have fun!”. Much academic competition there.

Have you heard of UCSB or SDSU by any chance??

If you’re a guy, well, there are a lot of very fine women at UCLA. and lots of fraternities and sororities.

(I grew up about 5 minutes from Westwood Village. it’s not a party school but it has all the right elements, like the ones you mentioned and the ones I just mentioned.)

I think it helps one strike a nice balance between fun and “serious things”

if you’re not socially awkward, and make the right group of friends, any school will be a “party school”, since you can party all you want with the aforementioned friends.

I’m pretty sure its not from what people post on this thread. I hear its pretty competitive here. Most people study a lot during the midterm and finals.

I’m from out of state too. In my state, UCLA is very highly regarded. I don’t think anyone thinks its a party school although some probably do think its a pretty fun school to be at because of its location.

Even to the point that when I tell recent UCLA graduates I’m going to UCLA, they say “good luck…”

So you haven’t even gone to the school yet?

*They used to be number 1 till they dropped to number 2 last year (i think) and number 12 this year. *

They were never number one.

Anyway, the fraternity scene at UCLA is pretty active (though IFC checks during the middle of parties is pretty whack, don’t know if they still do that) and the streets around those buildings can have lots of party goers around. It’s probably not a “party school” by definition but I’d say it’s the #2 socially active UC after UCSB.

wasn’t ucla’s sculpture garden ranked like #1 make-out spot in playboy? at least that’s what i remember from my campus tour…

but yeah to get on topic - i definitely would not classify ucla as a party school. in any case, i think there’s a great balance between academics and social/“party” life. there’s a good number of frat parties and people are bound to have house/apartment/dorm parties so it’s not completely dry.

^^ Really? Everyone in my area thinks it used to be number 1. lol. When I visited UCSB, the other people also on the tour brought up the topic of UCSB being the number 1 party school, and the tour guide had to say that they were no longer number 1.

I think the problem is that there seems to be a constant barrage of misinformation regarding UCSB. I’ve had to endlessly correct people on the UCSB boards on a variety of topics.
