Is UCLA's Communications Department good?

So I only applied to UCLA because I was applying to Berkeley and it gives you the option to apply to other UC schools, but it turns out UCLA is the only school I got accepted to :( I was wondering if anyone knew how good the comm department is and if its considered well known? THANKS!

It has to be good. C'mon it's UCLA!!

yeah it's one of the best in the country. And I don't just say that bc I'm a student, either. Before I knew about its other depts, I knew that comm. was super strong.

I'd put it top-5.

lol at "ucla is the only school i was accepted to" followed by a frown. it's not a death sentence yo. its actually pretty effing awesome. be stoked.

the comm department at UCLA is better than Cal's based entirely on location and because most professors in the department actively work in the field (LA Times/film industry/etc etc etc). this also means that there are likely more opportunities for jobs and internships while you're in school due to proximity to these kinds of employers.

it's a pretty well known program and it's also a super competitive program to be admitted into. they're pretty selective and you have demonstrate a strong interest in the field to be considered seriously. shoot for a HIGH gpa if you really want to get in. the higher the better. 3.8+ might be considered safe but it depends on the app pool when you're up for consideration.

i dunno. i loved it and i miss it. the comm administrative staff rocks hard and the professors are all super cool. don't be too bummed out.

yay thanks! it sounds fun now

3.8+ is not fun lol not on a 4.0 GPA scale with the competition at UCLA

usc and northwestern have the top communication schools. syracuse, boston university and a few other schools also have really strong communication departments. you'll get a decent education at ucla, but its communications is not well known.

Comm is an impacted major at UCLA. It is difficult to get into, and the one and only factor is GPA from frosh and soph years... or so I have heard

very good but also very hard and competitive

groovygeek- decisions are based primarily on gpa but other factors are also considered.
