Is UCSB a good school for Computer Science?

Hello, I’ve been recently accepted to UCSB as a C.S. major in the college of engineering. My main concern after graduating college is finding a job. I have narrowed my choices down to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UCSB but I’ve decided on UCSB because I can’t afford the $2,125 housing deposit at SLO. Now my only worry is that UCSB grads aren’t as sought after as C.S. grads from other universities like SLO, UCLA, and Berkeley and that I will have a very difficult time being employed. Does anyone know if UCSB is a good school for C.S. and I’d still be hired for a job after graduation?

If this is a concern of yours then asking random strangers on the internet for their assurances (or their advice to steer clear) doesn’t seem to be a very reliable way of getting an answer. IMHO, of course.

Why not call the UCSB undergrad advisor for CS?

I think it is possible for you to defer Cal Poly housing deposit fee if you will be receiving over $20k in financial aid (grants + loans) see below. Suggest you call them if you have not already about deferring if this is your first choice school. Cal Poly will be cheaper for you in the long run as well. Tuition of $9k per year vs. $12.8k. UCSB is a good CS school as is Cal Poly —as other poster suggests visit or call and talk to students and faculty to make the best decision

“On campus housing and dining plan payments (when applicable) may also be deferred if the student has accepted sufficient financial aid for the academic year.”

Wow I didn’t even know you could try and defer the housing deposit. I am going to contact Cal Poly immediately to find out more about it. Thank you so much!

Go to Cal Poly. UCSB Computer Science won’t give you the quality of an education that Cal Poly can.
