UCSB, I think, is the UCLA of tommorow, or maybe the UCLA of today. It's such a good school.

You're asking for beats with that one...

you are dumb

EVERYONE ON ALERT:

"StanfordAlum82" is actually "sitakirimusume" who's actually a UCLA cheerleader and LOVE bashing Stanford. One of his lies told in the old CC board was "he heard this year, you need 1500 on SAT to get into UCLA" which is complete BS. This person suffers serious inferior complex.

hehehe welcome back sitakirimusume :)

Anyway no one dispute the strength of UCSB FOR GRAD PHYSICS program, but otherwise, it's not comparable to Stanford. Case's closed hehehe ...

UC Davis is the next Uc berkeley

UC Davis is growing and growing as it is trying to become the largest UC
The Engineering department is ranking lower every year as well as many other departments. It has the only college town setting that is only comparable to Stanford in California. R & D is grwoing rapidly at Davis and it will probably drop into the top 25 in the next decade.

StanfordAlum82 is a legitimate Stanford Alum. His opinion, since he actually attended Stanford, should cary more weight than any of ours. So he likes UCLA ha? No wonder I took a liking to the guy. ;) I got your back dog. To translate, I'm on your side StanfordAlum82.

I've met plenty of people whose reputation preceded them with "you know, he's a Stanford grad"......are they saying that about UCSB grads? Doubt it.

Well, if you call that ranting as opinions from an alum, I will give it to you.

Is there another person who can hate his alma mater more?

Hey I personally love my alma maters even though they are rivals. In fact, there is a UCLA alum who hates UCLA and a USC alum who hates USC on this site. I dont agree with their opinions but they are entitled to have them. They have experienced the schools first hand and thus can give people a perspective that facts and books cannot give. Of course, I will probably say the opposite but that does not mean that their opinions are of no relavance. People reading this forum can decide what opinion they want to listen give more weight to.

OK, I'll be waiting eagerly for StanfordAlum82 to give us some of that "perspective that facts and books cannot give". So far he has just been spouting statistics and giving long quotes that anybody could have given without attending either UCSB or Stanford. And, by the way, I agree that Stanford is probably overrated in relation to UCSB; I just think StanfordAlum82's contributions here are not all that relevant to most people.

august, I actually thought that what you said was true about StanfordAlum82. Namely that he just posted articles and stuff. I was just too lazy to look up his/her posts. Well, if he is not saying anything bad about Stanford, why are people getting mad at him/her? Seriously, I have noticed nothing he/she has done wrong.

I dont know if my comment will be off the topic, but after attending ucsb, the whole reputation of party school is very OVERRATED.. I worked my a$$ off there, there are plenty of smart and 'gifted' students there.. Plenty of people i met there got into ucla but decided to attend ucsb. I am only talking about student in engineering major, i dont know about others.
My professor was cambridge and caltech graduate, he is a genus and his exams were soo hard,, but 50% of student got As.. I dont think UCSB is better than Stanford, thats my personal view. But UCSB is a great school, I dont know if I could handled the quarter system thats why I transfered.

For the record, six of the UCs are members of AAU : UC Davis, Berkeley, UCLA, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Irvine. http://www.aau.edu/aau/members.html

Granted that UCSB is a very fine institution, but check out this article to clarify that the Nobel Winners at UCSB are not required to teach undergrads, and all except 1 do not....http://home.frontiernet.net/newsdetail.asp?cat=3&id=1102

UCSB has chosen to focus their resources on a few key departments, and thus have pulled up their standings in recent years.

You could say that about all the UCs... just because UCD is "trying" doesn't necessarily mean it will. Given enough time, any university can become "the next UC Berkeley". To do that, it would have to unseat UCLA and UCSD, which, IMHO, just isn't happening. Besides, I've looked over numerous engineering rankings for each discipline and haven't seen UCD in the top 15 in any category... care to provide some factual reinforcement for your opinions?

As I said, UCD is "Harvard of Wine Study."

cotodecasa, how come you spelled your name incorrectly? do you know what coto de caZa is?
