:) :) :) :) :)

well, they've tolerated black's beach for a long time ...

lol. thanks, i think.

ive always thought so. they have a bunch of clubs/community center, and dances..ive never seen any gay hate or anything either

I would think so! They have this big LGBT club (lesbian gay bisexual transgender) club on campus that holds a lot of events throughout the year. They even have their own building :)

I'm not sure if this is just my suitemates, but I think a lot of students here are pretty progressive minded and after Prop 8, many were quite outspoken against it. As serenaxcheelam mentioned, there is an LGBT building that holds many events [there was actually a dance yesterday night] so I'm sure you'll be happy here.

For what its worth, you will undoubtedly encounter the manly-man type of guys who will use offensive terms and stuff unwittingly. I've heard my fair share of "That's so gay!" and other far-more-crude statements. But that's from the minority of people so yes, UCSD is definitely gay-friendly. In my opinion, most of the UCs are pretty gay-friendly.

my friend took me to that dance that MiqueMaus mentioned. It seemed pretty gay-friendly to me.

LGBT's non-sexist dance happened the other day, and from what I heard, was successful, so I'm assuming a yes.

Thanks for the comments. =)

gayyy? could you maybe be more specific?

like 2 girls mud wrestling? yeah were fine with that

or

2 homo's playing dress up? cuz that **** does not fly here....

put it this way, you will be treated the same as if you were in the military...

^Could anyone say if this guy is accurate or just trolling? A superficial dance is nice and all, but whether the average student is supportive is much more important. On a scale of Berkeley to Norte Dame, how pro-gay is UCSD?

Much, much closer to Berkeley. I've had gay friends, TAs, choir directors, and professors -- all awesome people. A number of students also live in Hillcrest, heard of that before?

let's put it this way... if you had anything that said YES ON PROP 8, people gave you crap.

This thread is indicative of how UCSD is. The majority of people are supportive who have no issue with gay people and then there are a small group of homophobes like Smartkidd [who is probably just trolling but will become an example].

For what its worth, the people who are gay-bashers probably would not be people you would hang out with even if they didn't mind gays. Closed mindedness is something that touches all aspects of life.

@astrina I love Hillcrest, we call it the gayborhood.

I always seem to call it Heyyyyyyyllcrest :)

I miss working at the Med Center there =\ Lots of good food everywhere!

Sadly, more people protested prop 8 than genocide.

i guess it's whatever hits closest to home. i daresay most of us know more gay people than victims of genocide ...

@Slorg, genocide is hard to stop and not always within one's reach of stopping, trying to prevent a group of people from become second class citizens once again was something very possible, sadly California ****ed up.

And isn't it sad that California voted to give more rights to farmyard animals, but took away equal rights to gay people.
