Is UCSD really that bad?

I have been reading very negative comments about UCSD online. I was wondering if the school is really that bad?

No. Dig through other threads before asking. We’ve disproved it many times before.

The end

You are fail. By the way did you know dihidrogen monoxide is the most harmful substance known to man?

i’ve already heard that before
of course you’re talking about water

my point exactly… dont buy into everything u hear = ) im sorry if i was mean but UCSD is awesome. I don’t see why anyone would say otherwise. Dont believe that its socially dead im sure who ever said that was some geek playing world of warcraft that never leaves his room. Take a tour and see for your self. You’ll meet some of the most compassionate and bright people not only in UCSD but its surrounding area.

I’m guessing you heard bad things about it from this site? Yeah… that explains the people on this site.

no, actually it’s pretty awesome.

if you come to a place hating it before you even get here, it’s gonna be hard to like it.

Just let this thread die.

I LOVE UCSD!!!

thread dies now :)

no. that is all

@OP: Is UCSD really that bad?

Questions like these are logical fallacies that cannot be answered. Saying yes is of course inccurate because ucsd is awesome. Saying no validates that while it is not that bad, it is bad. (Have you stopped beating your wife lately?)

So, here is the question and answer for the OP:
Are you really that stupid?

^^^ LMAO =)

Good Post/Question

not a ucsd student, but i live in SD anyways. theres a lot of things to do in san diego. padres, chargers, del mar, 60 miles of beach, air shows, downtown nightlife, sdsu parties, and if ur out of options, tijuana!

I think you have made a mistake; you have actually listed what makes San Diego terrible.

Padres (losers); Chargers (big [>200 lb] losers); Del Mar (are you already a senior citizen looking for ways to blow a free afternoon?); beach (melanoma); air shows (you see the trend…); downtown nightlife (expensive herpes); Tijuana (free herpes!).

These are a few of my least favorite things about the city. The personalities are warm at UCSD, the city is just inhospitable.

I’m probably going to die sad and alone…. It’s just the least eventful place I’ve ever lived—although it’s the only place I’ve ever lived. Anyway, if you’re interested in biotech or research, the opportunities here are endless; UCSD’s a great place to shadow physicians if you show promise.

Well isn’t someone a Debbie Downer?

I came to UCSD by choice, liked it at first, and grew to love it more and more each year. I also got more involved each year…correlation? haha

Also, the best thing you can do at any college is leave. I mean go abroad. And we have one of the best programs for that! :)

i luv how everytime someone says time for the thread to die, it starts again haha.

okay people seriously resist the urge to comment LET THE THREAD DIE A QUICK AND PAINLESS DEATH :P

I’ll sum it up for you:

1) Not a college town. La Jolla is terrible for students. Expensive, too many cars, people are full of crap, no good grocery stores, even less good restaurants, pray to Jesus you don’t die if you’re going to bike to school.

2) Same faults as any UC: The TA’s think less of you than they do of dirt. The professors of most of the lower division science/math are first quarter professors who don’t teach worth a crap. Expensive.

3) UCSD’s community support is atrocious: At Davis if you want to check out two tennis rackets, you give them one student ID, they scan your ID, give you the rackets. At UCSD, you can only get ONE racket per student ID, have to leave your ID with the gym. It’s not a BIG deal, but it just shows you how complicated a simple thing like “Hey can you go get two tennis rackets so we can play?” turns into a jungle mess.

4) The science/math departments are terrible at setting up classes in a block structure. The only physics class I can take, has a lecture on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 3, and another lecture on Tuesday afternoon from 5 to 6. And the problem session is from 8 to 9 pm. My classes next quarter, have 10 minutes break between each one on the same day and they’re across campus from each other. Versus other schools where every department has its own lecture halls.

5) People here suck. Bottom line, anyone who tries to tell you that San Diego has nice people either: has only lived in other equally terrible or worse cities or they don’t know San Diego. People in San Diego suck and I know it because I’m from San Diego. People cut you off on the freeway, people will honk at you when you’ve only been idle for about 1 second, people switch lanes without signaling, people give you bad service, you’ll be ignored in stores, you’ll feel like a jerk just for asking questions, so on and so forth. Even the homeless people here are terrible! I saw a homeless guy cussing out some dude in a car for not giving him any money. He was literally screaming every profanity I’d ever heard of, at every single person on the road, at the top of his lungs.

With that being said, I LOVE San Diego and UCSD in particular. I’ve gotten used to the bad things about UCSD and San Diego, and I’ve come to expect that every campus has its advantages and disadvantages. I love the beaches, I love the differing culture, I love how close I am to many different environments. I love UCSD and its variety of strong departments. I can change majors and I’ll still be in a nicely ranked university for whatever major I choose.

I would be happier at UC Davis, I spent some time there and trust me, UC Davis has #1 the hands down best college environment I’ve seen. Take it with a grain of salt, there’s worse places than UCSD, but there are some bad things here indeed.

^Honestly, YOU CAN LEAVE

@Essenar

I don’t necessary agree with you, AT ALL.
