Is uf worth out of state tuition

I love this school like you have no idea how much I love it.
My efc is 4279
Qualify for pell grants and other grants. I am just scared if we can afford it. My parents want me to go to texas a&m. I don't like the conservative view I just don't. I want to go where I will be happy and that is here.
Advice anyone thanks go gators

$8.5K at TAMU vs. $28.5K at UF, so that’s a delta of $20K a year. TAMU’s a great school, so the 20K a year isn’t worth it.

HOWEVER, UF may award you FA, merit and OOS scholarships. UF does award a few OOS tuition waivers (then we’re talking $8.5K vs. $6K at UF). You need to reach out to the Office for Student Financial Affairs (SFA), the financial aid office at UF, and make sure you’ve applied to everything possible. :)

Good Luck!

So sorry forget to say thank you very much, hoping for one in March thank you

You won’t be able to afford UF. It does NOT give much aid to OOS students and rarely gives much/any merit to OOS students.

Did you run the NPC on the UF website? If not, do so and tell us the result.

You have a low EFC, so your family is low income. WHERE is the money supposed to come from???

Did you apply to UT or any other Texas publics?

You can’t compare tuitions because TEXAS gives great aid to instate kids, so it’s not reasonable to compare instate rates if you were to possibly (rarely) get an instate rate at Florida.

I guess you need to get all the info in, but I am assuming you are from Texas. TAMU is a great school. I attended there as a graduate business student. There are many OOS students that want to get in to TAMU, and I guess the same for UF. Paying more for UF, like gator88 said, the delta additional cost is not worth it.

It basically said I will get 17,000 total in grants 11,000 from uf and 4,000 from pell grant and other grant 2000
Bringing my cost to basically 25,000 after all the grants have come in.
After one year and I get in state it will be free basically

Sorry but it doesn’t work that way for any state. I know because I researched that for some out of state schools. If you’ve lived in another state prior to freshman year, then you’re going to be considered out of state the entire time.

Crap really then I am screwed

You need one of the OOS scholarships (Sunshine or Gator Nation). They are hard to get, but you never know, unless you try. You should plan on TAMU (which is a great school), but if the scholarships come through, then you’re GTG for UF.

Office of Admissions Alumni Scholarship: $8,000 per year
Sunshine Scholarship: $16,000 per year
Gator Nation Scholarship: $20,000 per year

Thank u crossing my fingers

OP I would not be that concerned about ‘conservative’ campus. TAMU is a very friendly campus. You will find friends and others with common interests to you. It is a very large campus with a huge list of extra curricular activities where you can have some fun and meet others.

Your parents and you may have some reasons why UT is not being considered - due to your planned major, not wanting you in Austin…

To say you are screwed. If you have a bad attitude about your options based on financial constraints, that will carry through.

Sounds like you are bright and motivated. Look at the positives with your options.

Maybe your motivation to apply for various scholarships at your dream school will come through. If not, do not look at cup half empty.

Ut I was capped so…
Thank you it’s just that my friend goes to tamu she said lots of them were racist and they were conservative from HER experience so far

Your friend might have just run into a small group. There are a lot of racists in TX and other states after all. To draw that general conclusion about the school is not fair. There is a huge Catholic population at TAMU (like over 10K of the students) - and I find someone would be hard pressed to say Catholics are racists!

Ok I am Muslim do you think it work out. I do love florida with a passion it’s my dream school

I hope you can find out from other Muslims - look to see if there is a Muslim student organization at TAMU. Does UF have a strong Muslim base?

How do you fit in and how would you stand out from other students?

My nephew went to a very liberal-thinking small college in Iowa, and he held his own with all the profs; the President of the school HATED that he was elected student body president. He got along great with other students. Even though my nephew is probably one of the most successful graduates, he is never invited back with the other past student body presidents. So what. The profs are who he interacted with along with the students.

I do understand your concerns being at a school that began as all-male ROTC. Have you visited campus? I have not walked in your shoes and do not know what hostilities you have faced or are concerned about facing.

I will visit tamu during spring break. Also uf does have s strong Muslim base. Texas a&m base is not as big

Of course UF dominates in all fields of human endeavor!

TAMU does have an active Muslim Student’s Association:

<a href=“Muslim Students' Association - Public Profile - StuAct Online”>https://studentactivities.tamu.edu/app/organization/profile/public/id/1038

- Texas A&M University;

Back to UF, Islam on Campus is UF’s Muslim Student’s Association:

http://www.islamoncampus.com/

What would I do without you @gator88NE
I won’t worry about money anymore I already know the steps for getting instate tuition after a year. Also my mom is finishing school to be a registered nurse so $$$$$$$ is coming in. Also my brother hoes to Ut and is coming out with 80000 on loans. If I lived in florida UF would be almost free. I know they will help me just got to be optimistic

I hope you find good answers at your visit, and find the campus friendly to you. Gig’em.

@135pipe From a current student at Texas A&M, remember we’re a school with 50k+ here, very very many different groups of people and it really is not as conservative as others make it out to be. It was more like that in the past, but since we’ve expanded over the last decade, move to the SEC (Johnny Football!), and big rises in applicants because of the recent success, it is an evolving student population and an exciting time to be here. I’m from Austin so I am able to make comparisons between conservative and liberal people and like I said, you can’t tell much of a difference, just too many people here to draw a single conclusion from. And as far as $ goes, I’m sure A&M is throwing $ at you if you were able to get into UF as well and if UF doesn’t grant you OOS tuition rate, it really isn’t economical to go there for 4 years compared to A&M, we’re ranked one of the best values in the country for costs as well. (I also lived in Orlando, FL for 8 years before moving to Austin btw) just wanted to also say congrats on acceptance to UF as it is my 2nd favorite school outside A&M and would’ve killed me to make a decision like that between the two, thankfully I only got into A&M, so easy choice there, though Grad school is always a future possibility… But really any other questions just ask away, it really is great here Gig’em!
