Is UMich - Ann Arbor at par with the Ivy?

Phahaha, your Making Friends and Influencing People 101 class must have been lame

I took a college level class called Leadership and Society 211. It taught me much more advance smiley. I mean I got a great education with

Oooooh. Fancy!
Did you pay $212,000 for those? I know mine are not terribly sexy and at times a little lame but they only cost $92,000 (in today’s dollars.)
I especially like this one: (<.>) It reminds me of innocence!
Can I borrow them?

outside perspective…Duke’s reputation trounces Michigan’s.

Easy way to prove this. Go to ANY place in this country with a friend and have one tell a stranger he went to Duke–with you saying you went to Michigan. Bottom line, Duke will raise more eyebrows. Michigan is a great school but it is hindered by its public school status…it admits far too many idiots. However, at the same, U of M cleans up shop with in-state Harvard/MIT genius types who can’t afford the latter two schools. I guess there’s two perspectives…but U of M doesn’t compete with the Ivies/Duke/Northwestern/Notre Dame/UChicago/Georgetown when it comes to aptitude of student body and reputation. Average ACT/SAT and acceptance rates…that’s the big stuff. Sorry but it’s the world we live in.

Go anywhere and ask anyone where Duke is located. 9 out of 10 people will have no idea. Heck, the won’t even have ever heard of Durham. I dare say the vast majority won’t even know what state it’s located in. But, they sure will know they play good basketball. The first thing anyone thinks of when they hear the name Duke is basketball. After HYPSM, nobody reallly is all that impressed where you go to school. Sorry, but that’s the world we live in too. By the way Sux, if Duke admittred you, I guess Michigan isn’t the only school that admits far too many idiots. Get over yourself!

Why are there so many Duke lurkers in the Michigan forum? This is between Michigan and the ivies! :)

“Oops, I think you have the wrong school here. This isn’t Michigan. The bottom 25% of the student body still succeed in life.”

“Oh well, I can now take my “feelings of adequacy” and cash them in the bank for a six figure salary yearly from here on out. If there’s a therapy session available for people who make far too much money, then I will be needing it very soon.”

Such blatant elitism. ringoffire, do you realize you come off as extremely insecure? I can actually picture your voice cracking if you had said that aloud.

For duke? I haven’t found that to be the case. I’ve found that outside HYPSM, the next block of schools elicit similar reactions, with variations along regional lines. In the midwest I’ve found Michigan, Notre Dame, and Northwestern hold trump right under HYPS (for some reason, Wash U and U Chicago are still relatively unknown). Duke? Basketball.

novi, Sux is at Notre Dame if memory serves, which explains why he included Notre Dame in his list of schools that compare to the Ivies and that “trounce Michigan”.

At any rate, I am closing this thread now because it has drifted. I think the OP got a lot more than he bargained for! hehe!
