Is UMICH ever going to let me know!!!

Ok I submitted my app on Nov.1

They didnt even find all of my stuff until Nov 18th. And yes i am positive that my stuff was in Ann Arbor before my app was, my teacher rec got sent way back in september.

They say ten days after submission they should have your app complete 18 -1 = 17 ok thats reasonable i can understand they're busy....

But now nearly a month later they have yet to let me know anything...

I wouldnt mention anything but the fact that my UMICH and MIT apps went in on the same day and MIT will arrive tomorrow (they let us know about mail days) makes me wonder what the hell is taking so long.

MSU accepted me in less than 1 week. 4 business days. You cannot convince me that U of M is really that much more thurough.

From the looks of things U of M takes forever in the admit phase though....(i guess i have to look for another scapegoat....ahh yes the postal service)

I had everything in october 31st and still no word...I am getting extremely anxious.

Wow UnusualSock, very odd... we are in the exact same boat. I submitted my UMich app the same day, same time it was complete, and my rec's were submitted online in Sept, and my transcripts were sent in then too. I was also admitted to MSU in 4 days. This is too weird.... I didn't apply to MIT though, but nevertheless, still an odd coincidence

I submitted mine on October 25 and everything was received by November 7. Still no word, I used to be really worried but I just got into GTown so I feel a little more at ease

Yes unusualsock, Michigan is a great deal more thorough than MSU when it comes to admissions. Michigan takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 12 weeks after your application is completed to get back to the applicant. Your application has been complete for less than 4 weeks. So relax and do not worry.

It may not be thoroughness so much as applicant quality.

MSU and U-M have different student profiles. Have you looked into their stats? This really tells the story.

For schools with rolling admissions, there are two goals: get decisions out as quickly as possible, and get decisions out as consistently as possible.

If you have a student who is among your best applicants, it's easy to meet both goals. You're going to admit your top candidates no matter what, so there is no risk to deciding now--you can do a super-quick turnaround.

At a more selective school, the same kind of applicant may fall at a different point in the applicant pool "spectrum." Rather than being one of the sure-fire, admit-no-matter-what applicants, such a student may fall in the "we might have room for students like this, but we might not." Now it's hard to both make a quick decision AND make a decision that the University know it will agree with (and will continue to be making) later. They could go ahead, take a guess, and give you (and a bunch of students just like you) a decision immediately, but it might later turn out that because of that, they have to turn away many applicants of a higher-quality profile, or accept a large number of applicants who fit a lower profile. Then they made a bad decision with you and your peers, because they're not being consistent.

This is why Michigan tells applicants it could take 8-12 weeks. Some students will hear much faster than that, either because they're top students or because they applied at a good time. But most students will have to wait as Michigan gathers information about application flow and application quality, and makes some well-thought-out (and consistent!) decisions based on what the data is telling them.

i applied in september and no word yet. I know it takes 8-12 weeks, but i thought i applied on the earlier side. Does it take this long for someone who applied in september?

i applied in september and no word yet. I know it takes 8-12 weeks, but i thought i applied on the earlier side. Does it take this long for someone who applied in september even though it has been like 11 1/2 weeks?

Welcome to Wolverine Access. It takes a number of weeks for all of the materials to be posted. Then, they claim up to 12 weeks for a decision. Outstanding/strong candidates may be accepted earlier.

Keep in mind it is rolling admissions and the time frame for a decision is not too bad. Wolverine Access is not the most efficient site for up to date information. I am amazed of the short period of time other universities take to provide you with an updated status.

In the end it doesn't matter. We will hear a decision soon enough. If you have any doubts that your application is complete, I suggest waiting 4 weeks after all material is submitted before calling or using the live help support.
They are quite helpful.

How exactly do we use live help? I can't find anything about that.

How do you check status using wolverine access. I set up a friend account or something like that. What kind of account do you need to set up to view app. status and how do you get to that web page?

yea my app was completed 11/2! and they still haven't gotten back to me! its making me sooo anxious!!!! +_+ did i not get accepted..or something??? *

my friend was completed on 11/1, and she received her acceptance in the mail yesterday...

mine was complete on 11/14 so i'm expecting my decision to be late december/early janurary

Argghhh....

I better hear from them within the next few days. I don't want to apply to MSU!

yeah, I was complete 11/3... I guess I might hear back tomorrow (that would be nice)

and I thought I was a pretty strong candidate...

if mine is not yet complete.. can i expect a letter by february or something?

Is this a facetious question? Because yes, if you'd been accepted, you'd have heard. They don't make decisions and then sit on them. If they made a decision on your application, they'd let you know.

so the moment they make a decision it's mailed and updated online in the next perhaps 12 hours?

this is soo confusing. my app was completed 11/2 and i got a decision 12/8.. the date on the letter was 12/2 .. i was deffered. does this mean anything, like i wasnt a very strong candidate?

No. The decision is made in a room in one building and the files are kept in another building, so you have to build in time for them to run from one to another.

More seriously, they generally get the letter out two days later. I don't know about the online process.
