Is UMich worth 220k? Int student asks for FA

I cannot apply for any scholarships/grants (international) and technically can neither afford the price. So I was wondering whether it's possible to ask nicely the financial aid committee let me pay the instate-tuition, since I have comparably nice stats and need FA?

Would it help saying to which colleges I got in also?

And is it really worth 220k?

it would help saying which colleges you also got in, especially the other colleges are comparable in prestige with U-M.

Unfortunately Albina, when it comes to international students, there is very little the university can do. Legally, it is not allowed to offer any sort of state or federal aid and the university does not have an independent fund to help international students.

You lose nothing by asking for in-state tuition, but it is not likely to be granted. Hell, even US citizens who have lived much of their lives in Michigan sometimes do not qualify for in-state status.

As for whether or not a university is worth $220k, the answer is simple: not if you need to ask! Seriously though, for those who can afford it, an experience and education of Michigan’s calibre is hard to match and worth every penny. Conversely, no degree, even one from Harvard, is worth that kind of money if one does not have the means to pay and must resort to taking out loans and other financial burdens/hardships.

Is a Rolex worth it? Is a Bentley worth it? you can buy a Timex to tell time, or use your cell phone (does anybody wear a watch for function anymore?) or drive a Toyota - you’ll get where you’re going, just as safely and timely as in a Bentley.

As Alexandre so much said - a UMich undergrad degree is a luxury, not a necessity. And “worth” is very subjective. There are no guaranty’s, no matter where you go.
