I applied to Union as one of my safeties. That does not mean it's not a serious option for me. I don't really have a clear favorite school at the moment, so I'm really just looking for opinions on whether or not I'd be a good fit for Union. I'm really strong academically (2130 SAT, a pile of APs), but I'm not really a nerd or studyaholic. In fact, I probably don't study nearly as much as I should. I like being social, but I am most certainly not a party person. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and I'm not about to start in college. I read that Webster is substance free, but at the same time it's extremely quiet focused, so it actually might not be social enough. Are there plenty of people around who are social and smart, but aren't heavy drinkers?

By the way, I'm going to be majoring in Computer Science, and I have every intention of going on for a Masters/PhD after college.

Webster, though being very study-focused, isn’t unsocial in the least. The kids there are some of the most closely bonded on campus. That said, there are plenty of people on campus that are outgoing, social and fun but aren’t big drinkers. Even though the drinking culture is prominent on campus, the majority of students are not heavy drinkers. It is more of an occasional thing for students than you would think.

@renthus, i think union sounds like a good fit for you! you can find anything you would enjoy on campus!

@unionadmissions, when do we find out RD??

Are you worried about the high cost of UNION? It looks like one of the more expensive Liberal Arts Private Colleges. I love the school but the pricetag is a bit scary.

@EDhelp123: Regular decision comes out on March 23. They are sent out on the 21st, but the applicant portal goes live on the 23rd!

@wtped64: Though Union is very expensive, we pride ourselves in meeting an average of 99% of need.

Please explain “Though Union is very expensive, we pride ourselves in meeting an average of 99% of need.” That sounds nice in a brochure but in the real world when a kid has to take out 160k plus in loans to attend- how is that need met?

@wtped64: The average need based grant (free money) from Union is $29,000. The average merit based grant is $10,000. While we do offer a small amount of loans for students that need it, the average student debt is no where near the amount you mentioned. To see what a financial aid package might look like for your financial situation please use our net price calculator union.edu/netprice

Actually, my COA over 4 years would be 144K. The financial aid package doesn’t even come close to meeting my EFC of 20,000/yr. Union doesn’t even give as much as more prestigious schools like the University of Rochester.
