Is Universty of Rochester a realistic school for me?

I am currently going into my senior year and I am making a list of potential colleges that I want to apply to and U of R is at the top of my list. Right now I am really interested in majoring in Biochemistry or Microbiology. I was just wondering if I would have a good chance of getting accepted into University of Rochester. Here's some stuff about me:

GPA: 3.993 (unweighted)- I've tried to take the hardest classes that I can, for example my junior year looked like this: AP US History, AP English, Spanish (fourth year), Honors Algebra II, Psychology, and Honors Chem

SAT: 1920 total, 670 critical reading, 630 math, 620 writing (this was the first time I took it, I plan to retake it in the fall along with the ACT for the first time)

Activities: I run cross country and track and have for all of high school. I actually contacted the head coach at U of R and she said that I would be a good addition to the track and cross country teams at U of R.
I have been in Key club for one year and have done a lot of community service through it.
Also this summer I have a paid internship funded by the NSF at a Microbiology lab at Washington State University where I am helping out with research on archea and E.coli.

Any input would be great! Thanks so much!

You’re fine. You’re stats are better than, and I got in with merit aid. My stats weren’t great, but I wrote great, passionate essays and interviewed really well (I think). My teacher recommendations were awesome too. There’s a really good thread somewhere about the admissions process somewhere on here. I get the impression that ur looks for enthusiastic students, not just high academic achievement.

Awesome! Thank you so much, that makes me feel a lot better! I really really like what I see in UR so far!

I just have one quick question. When did you do your interview? I live in Washington State and Rochester is pretty far away so I don’t know if I am going to get a chance to visit before I apply. Are there phone interviews or alumni interviews that I could do?

speedy–we also live far away. D2 (rising senior) interviewed with a traveling admission representative. Once you open an admission application online (MyROC)

[University of Rochester : College Admissions](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/)

you can check to see if there are any college fairs or school visits planned near where you live. (It’s a good idea to sign up to be notified of any UR events in your area.) If there are, you can request an interview with the rep thru the MyROC site.

If no rep will be in your area, then you can request a phone or alumni interview thru the MyROC site.

speedy,

Mark Emblidge, one of our Admissions Counselors, travels out to Washington State every fall. He will specifically be in the Seattle/Tacoma area sometime in or around October.

Definitely create a MyRoc account as WOWM suggested. Not only will you be able to set up a potential interview through your MyRoc account, but you’ll be able to check the status of your application throughout the upcoming year.

Don’t worry if you can’t meet up with our specific Washington State Admissions Counselor. Phone IV’s and IV’s with local alums carry the same amount of weight as an interview with a Counselor.

Also, feel free to call our Admissions Office toll-free at 888-822-2256 if you have any questions.

Tyler

Thanks for the info WOWM and Tyler! I actually emailed Mark Emblidge and he just replied telling me about the trips that he is making to Seattle! There are no alumni volunteers in my area so I am hoping to get an interview in Seattle! I have a MyRoc account and I didn’t know that you can schedule the interviews through there so I am going to look at that right now! Thanks again!
