By the way paradocs, I’m not a good man, I’m a great woman and mother thanks anyway.

Penn has an unfortunate name. In Michigan both U of Michigan and Michigan State are state schools. People from outside the East Coast/Ivy-awareness set might assume Penn, Pitt, and Penn State are all part of the same system, if they have even thought anything about it. If you say “Wharton” they tend to know what that is, though.

qdogpa, I think you grossly overestimate the value of an Ivy League education for undergraduates, at least in the job market. Maybe for certain fields it makes a difference but in my experience it is all about the individual. And some of the smartest people I know have gone to places like Slippery Rock or not even attended college.

About your original Q, I do not think any college is worth $57,000 a year no matter which college including all of the so-called name-brand colleges, if it involves sacrifices from the parents. A few years ago, I sent one of my sons to a school just because it costed a couple of grands from me and saved my S about $15k loan over four years, than another school he had slightly more interest.

I am fully against student debts if the debt amount is beyond something that can be easily handled. I am also against paying for colleges that require too much pain and sacrifice on the parents. While I do work hard to save and help my children to pay for their education and leave the lowest possible debt, I do not believe anyone should take so much financial burden for the ‘so-called’ dream school.

My sister is a graduating UPenn senior, and even though she has enjoyed her years there, it would not have been worth $270,000. Absolutely not.
