DD is doing the sleepover thing in January, and she has already visited. I am concerned about whether a lot of the students there are unhappy that they didn't get into a higher choice school. I was in a similar situation when I went to college, though the college is now extremely selective.

D3 is applying to Ursinsus with a Priority Application, she has not visited/interviewed. So we will see how this goes! She is rather a big Proscrastinator! What did you think of the campus? Did you visit?

Ursinus is D's 3rd choice. It will also depend on merit aid.

applemom, what is the sleepover thing in Jan?

I don't think you'll find that Ursinus students are unhappy there because they didn't get into a higher-choice school. I'd bet that many of them had other options, and didn't "settle" for Ursinus.

My D is a freshman and is very happy. Last year she was accepted to all of the schools she applied to, so had her choice of Lafayette (paying full freight), Franklin & Marshall (full freight), University of Delaware (full freight), and Ursinus (generous merit aid).

The merit aid at Ursinus made the cost significantly less than Lafayette and F&M, and equal to U of Del. D narrowed her choices on cost, then chose Ursinus in part because she could continue her sport. She has no regrets.

Pumpkin65: I bet that if your D's GPA/test scores are at the high end of the 50% range, there'll be merit aid. Make sure she goes to "scholarship day" (in March) if she's invited.

Pumpkin65,
Sorry for the late response. The overnight thing is called "Red and Gold" day or something like that. It's hard to find on the web page, so if you can't located info about it, just call the admissions office. Ursinus has a program on Thursday for the student applicants, they are hosted in a dorm overnight, and then they go to classes on Friday. It takes place Jan 29 and 30, if that is a Thursday and Friday. I highly recommend it. I think it is the best way to find out what a college is about.

Thanks, found it and signed her up. We live 2.5 hours away...hope we can swing it and the weather is OK!

Perhaps we will do the Red & Gold Overnight, if she could be persuaded into going.
