national socierty of high school scholars member
venture scholar
on yearbook staff
...and probably some more stuff that i can't remember right now

do i have any chance at all?

Yes…

you’re in.

By USC I mean University of Southern California, not South Carolina…

your GPA is a tad low, but your SAT scores are really good and you have some decent extracurriculars.
it’s hard to say…your GPA brings down your app. maybe a slight reach?

The average UNweighted GPA of accepted students for Fall 2008 was 3.8, and the projected UNweighted figure for fall 2009 is 3.9. Your plan to improve your SAT scores would help, but even if you do get the 2210 you are hoping for, USC will be a reach with your GPA. http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/0910/FreshmanProfile2008v3.pdf</a> If you like the school and it offers programs and majors that interest you, you should still apply - your list should have reaches, matches and, most importantly, safeties. USC fits in as a reach for you.

Go to a JC for a year and then apply. They are taking somewhere around 1200 transfers this fall as sophomores.

I’m also a URM and I got into Annenberg with much lower SATs than you. My GPA was higher though.

The OP’s current SAT is a 1910 - the 2210 is a projection.

I think you have a good chance even though your GPA is a little low.

You can make it, just take APs your senior year, my stats were similar to yours but in reverse[my SAT was 1810 but my GPA was 3.91/4.36] and I totally got in. I am URM too btw. Good luck, if this is your dream school, I sure hope you get it! Also, your ECs are great but maybe take up a leadership position senior year too, if anything it will be a fun experience.

I hear that schools care more about GPA than test scores though…
but USC is definitely at the top of my list- it’s a decent compromise between what my parents want and I want, so of course I am going to apply, I just don’t know weather or not to be optimistic! I plan on being the secretary of Spanish club next year, join FBLA, and I’m currently working on a major recycling project in my town, and I’m doing that single-handedly. I also forgot to write that I was in The Crucible last year and hopefully will be cast in my schools’ Fall play this year as well. And I know the improved SAT score is a projection but I’m very confident that I can actually achieve that score.

I love hearing all the “I’m a URM and I got in!”, gives me hope!!!
I hear USC likes to accept URM’s, especially ones that don’t need financial aid.
(I don’t mean that as an insult, it’s just what I’ve heard)
