I've heard people say that USC is moving up on the rankings on academics and as a school overall. Is this true? Is it expected that USC will surpass UCLA or even Berkeley in the near future? Do companies keep up to date with this, or will all they remember is the prestige of UCLA or Berkeley? I already know that admission statistics (so no need to list them), but if any1 knows more about it, it would really help. Thanks!

definitely it is getting prestiegous. They are getting more and more selective and i will almost guarentee they will be higher ranked than UCLA or UCB in matter of years because if you see the admission statistics, USC's SAt, GPA, etc are almsot equal to UCLa's or UCB

Everyone says its getting more selective, prestigious, etc, whatever, but reputations sure are hard to change. And although USC may surpass UCLA and UCB here in socal, whenever I mention myself deciding between UCLA and USC to my friends outside of socal, I get that blank 'are you serious?' look But yes number wise its getting much better, people say they are buying their way into prestige, although I don't know reputations wise, how much it is moving up.

jonkt i sent you a PM please check it.

Those in academia and those "in the know" and follow college rankings, or are at least knowledgeable on the topic, know that USC has reached the realm of the upper UC's and is still upward bound.

For many others however who don't follow, they still rank things by how they were in their day; when UCLA was clearly the leader. Unfortunately, to those people, perception is reality.

As much as USC has accomplished, and as much as it has boasted about those accomplishments, perception is rather tough to change.

Blame it on the stubborn ignorant.

how was usc ranked last year by us news ?

USC is currently ranked 30th, I looked in US News today actually. I'm from NH and the reputation out here is certainly pretty good. When I tell people that I'm going to USC they seem pretty impressed. I know my guidance counsellor was perfectly thrilled with my decision to attend the Thematic Option at USC. My advisor was a little disappointed, but he went to the University of Oklahoma, what can I say, USC beat them this year.

i was just wondering if anyone knows how usc was ranked last year and even before that so we can see how high its climbed up the rankings, and to make an educated guess on what to expect in the future.

1996: USC - 44
1997: 41
1998: 44
1999: 40
2000: 41
.
.
Right now: 30

Pretty darn good, I'd say.

:)

Let's hope for at least another eleven spots in the next five years (#19) :)

masterchief, do you know ucla's ratings at that time?

i heard the new rankings are coming out in august, and i bet you anything 'sc would be in the twenties

Why? Is it just the upward trend in rankings, or do you see improvements in the school?

well, both

He's excited that's why. Probably both.

Edit: Eh...forgot to refresh the screen before posting.

There's an interesting downward trend for UCLA. Here it is:

1991 - 17
1992 - 23
1993 - 23
1994 - 22
1995 - N/A (sorry don't know this one)
1996 - 28
1997 - 31
1998 - 29
1999 - 25
2000 - 25

And you guys know the rest...I think.
