is USC good?

Is the school USC competitive to get into.(where does it fall in the rankings). Is the business school any good?

they accepted over 70% of apps up until like 6 or 7 years ago. ucla is better

usc has top schools in many areas, including Marshall School of Business, School of Cinema and Film, and the USC College in general. USC is ranked around 30, and is very competitive to get into.

I was just wondering because I got a letter form them stating that I have been identified by collegeboard as one of the most promising high school juniors? Is this BS?

bump it on up

It's all around decent to good with many stand out/great programs. They are also big on merit scholarships. What're you interested in studying besides business? Their business program is supposed to be very good, and because of the way the school works, they encourage students to get minors like few others schools i've seen.

It's ranked number 30 in the nation! All programs are good, some are spectacular (film). They only accept 25% or so of the applicants. It's a private, so look at $40,000+ a year. It's not for everyone, you should check it out personally, I never thought about applying there until I passed by and thought, "this is what I call a college". It really depends on the person.

As other posters have said, USC is a great school located in Los Angeles (not in the best neighborhood, but it's not actually as bad as people make it out to be). Their average SAT for the last entering class was around 1370, which, IMO, is pretty high for an average. Some people like to compare USC to NYU (both have excellent film and business schools), but my knowledge about NYU is limited so I'm not sure how valid that comparison is (aside from those two sub-schools).

USC has been generous with merit scholarships for those students with high stats (to try and lure them away from super elite schools and bump up its ranking). Also, USC has great athletics if you're into college sports. If you're going into business, USC is known to have good alumni connections.

I agree with kyle5000, UCLA is a better school, but USC is on the rise pretty quickly.

I got rejected from USC and I got in Berkeley... go figure.. I hate the area of USC anyway (no, this is not me just being bitter lol, I am happy at Berkeley) I would feel scared just stepping foot off of campus.

USC is rising every year, while UCLA is steadily declining.
(That's what I heard.)

Anyway, I was accepted this year to USC. I'm awaiting decisions from UCLA, Berkeley (Out of state) and some other schools, but USC is high up there on my list. It's ranked #30, 27%~ acceptance rate, great location, etc. Plus, they gave me a merit scholarship (which was sooooooo surprising). It is only 8000/year, but still!

Based on . . .?

I also was rejected by USC. Then again, I didn't take the application seriously, and did much of it at the last minute. C'est la vie.

(That's what I heard from my sister's friend's boyfriend, who totally knows what he's talking about.)

Make sure you visit it first. My brother in law went to USC for two years and said it was the worst decision of his life. He transferred out to the New School and couldn't have been happier. I'm sure some people love the school, but I'd see for yourself before you commit.

I was just wondering because I got a letter form them stating that I have been identified by collegeboard as one of the most promising high school juniors? Is this BS? the said...you will receive invitations to visit the campus, an application, and perhaps eventually, an invitation to join the Trojan family...what does all that mean?

They only want you for your body. :p

I would compare USC to NYU. Top notch faculty, strong student body, decent resources but lacking cohesion somehow.

Yes, though Stern >>>>>>>>>>> Marshall.

I would go that far ACA. I'd say Marshall is a solid top 10 BBA program and Stern is a solid top 5 BBA program. All said, Stern is indeed better...but not by a huge margin.

Having spent the summer living on the UCLA campus and hanging out at USC (my best friend is in the grad film school), I have no idea how someone could think USC has a nicer location/ campus than UCLA. UCLA just blows USC out of the water in this regard in my opinion. Westwood is heaven compared to the USC neighborhood.
