Are both auto and non auto admits admitted into their majors on a rolling basis? Or is it only auto admits? Because from previous years, it seems that only auto admits receive their majors during the fall semester of their senior year. Will someone please clarify?

With the exception of a few programs, UT does not use rolling admissions. However, a few selected students, based upon exceptional qualifications, are admitted into their majors throughout the fall semester of their senior year. Auto-admit students are told that they are accepted to the university, but not to the major of their choice, in the fall semester.

As mentioned before, there are a few exceptions. Plan II, one of the liberal arts honors programs, uses rolling admissions; similarily, the Buisness Honors Program will deliever a decision to anyone who applies before October 15th by mid December. However, the majority of students find out if they’re admitted to their major in mid-February.

@EternalFlame- as this is Texas, does this mean that being an Eagle Scout will qualify as “exceptional qualifications”? What other qualifications would set these candidates apart?

On UT’s common data set for 2012-2013, the factors considered very important are rank and rigor of curriculum. At the next level, important factors include SAT/ACT scores, essays, ECs, talent, volunteer activities and work. Factors considered on a lesser level include recommendations, character, first generation and interest. The only factor not considered is GPA (since they consider rank within the applicant’s school to be more indicative).

SAT/ACT scores play an important role in getting to the tough majors early.

Thank you for the clarification
