Is UT harder than Baylor?

Hi, I am a current Baylor pre-med sophomore (upcoming Junior) with a 3.8 GPA. I really want to transfer to UT and have already gotten in but I am worried about the plus/minus system that UT uses (Baylor only uses a plus system, e.g. B+, C+, D+). Is UT much harder than Baylor, i.e.will UT bring my gpa down if I go there? Any help on this would be much appreciated.

If you’re pre-med, you probably don’t make many Bs or lower. Note that with a +/- system, you can get an A- but not an A+. This would most likely pull down your numerical average, though I would think that med school admissions offices are savvy enough to take that into account when comparing applicants.

TMDSAS (TX public med schools) don’t use pluses or minuses. All As are 4.0, Bs are 3.0, Cs are 2.0. AMCAS (national privates) use the +/- system: A+=4.0, A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7, etc. Most kids whose UG uses a +/- tend to get a boost when they apply to TX publics because typically they have more A-s than B+. gadad is correct, though, in that they’ll look at your school and evaluate your GPA in context of reputation/rigor. I really don’t think you can go wrong at either. I know you’ll have smaller prerequisite classes at Baylor and the curving system at many state schools (large classes) can be brutal. However, I might also argue UT is considerably cheaper. In the end, I’d advise you to probably stay put (a 3.8 is a solid GPA so you’ve proven yourself at Baylor) unless finances are a concern then head south to Austin. Good luck!
