I live in Texas, top 4% of my class, so I got auto-admission into UT.

Anyway, if it all boils down to me having to go to school in Texas. Is UT a good choice? Considering how liberal I am?
I just don't want to be stuck in a school of.... conservatives.
I know Austin is "liberal" - for Texas that is...
But a lot of right-wingers from my school seem to love UT.
:((

Don’t worry. You will fit right in.

UT isn’t 100% liberal, but would you really want that?

There’s nothing like learning new ideas in an environment where everyone agrees w you…

@GMTplus7 I’ve lived in Texas for 18 years. Trust me I’ve gotten my dose of conservatism.

From what I understand McCombs is the only part of UT that is conservative as a population. I hear A&M is pretty liberal ;)

@Machovich Haha, yep. Definitely going to A&M then. :)>-

Yes, I agree - you and A&M deserve each other! ;)

Relative to the state as a whole and especially A&M, UT-Austin is fairly liberal. If you are comparing UT to Cal-Berkeley or some of the east coast liberal arts colleges and Ivy League schools, then UT would appear to be relatively moderate.

When I attended school there as both an undergrad and then a law student, the overall feel on campus tilted slightly left; however, due to the sheer size of the student body there were critical masses of liberals, conservatives and moderates viewpoints on campus.

In sum, if you put Cal-Berkeley on one end of a spectrum (the left side) and A&M on the other side of the spectrum, (the right side) then UT-Austin would fit in the middle with a slight tilt toward the left.

Even if you are extremely liberal, you will have a more intellectually engaging experience if you go somewhere that has some dissenting views from what you hold. At UT, you’ll find a great number of liberals who share like minded views with you and a sufficient number of conservatives who will keep you intellectually honest by challenging the merits of your views.

Good luck with your college search.

@fatherof2boys Thank you. I guess you guys are right.
I don’t really care to go to school in Texas, but UT sounds like a good choice if I decide to.
