Is UTK a good school and how does it compare?

I got accepted into UTK and I want to do engineering probably. Engineering is definitely first right now and second is business. I am thinking about majoring engineering and minoring in business. With this said, how does UTK rank? How does it compare to UGA and UF and Ohio State? I got a near full ride at UTK and honors, while UGA is 30k a year. Is UTK the right choice? Also, how hard and is it bad to transfer colleges to say OSU or UF? I am only asking this as backup if UTK does not work out. Overall, Is UTK 1. a good engineering school and 2. a good business school and 3. how does it compare to UGA? Which school is better for my situation? Thanks

UTK has a very good engineering program, one of the best in the southeast. It’s comparable to Auburn’s and Clemson’s programs (perhaps, based on major, just a step behind), but not as strong as OSU or UF’s (which are both much larger, better funded programs). Choice of major plays a role in comparing these schools. For example, UTK’s Nuclear Engineering program, is one of the best in the nation. UGA has only recently started to expand it’s engineering program, and it’s not yet comparable to UTK’s.

It has a solid business school, with it’s popular Supply Chain Management / Logistics program being one of the best in the nation (US News has it ranked #3).

Overall, UGA is stronger, academically, than UTK. However, it’s engineering program isn’t really comparable. If you’re thinking of engineering, then UTK is your best choice.

How hard is based on which major you want to transfer into. For example, at UF, it would be much harder (more competitive) to transfer into Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering, than Civil/Nuclear engineering. OSU is likely similar.

How bad? In general, I wouldn’t recommend giving up a “near full ride” at UTK for OOS tuition at OSU or UF, unless $ isn’t a factor, and/or you’re after a particular major that’s not offered (or isn’t well supported) at UTK.

thanks. so if i wanted to double major then which choice is better? also, lets say i want to focus on business only, would uga or utk be the better option? On US news, uga is ranked like 6 spots higher but its 30k more per year for me, but i dont want to base the ranking off one website.
