Is UVA better for CS or finance?

As the timetable for elite corporate recruiting has moved up, the McIntire issue has become less important-some students have internship offers secured before the admission decisions are announced. As a 2 year school, it serves much less of a recruiting function than 4 year schools which can start alerting their students to opportunities as soon as they arrive on campus.

I would not presume that those not admitted to business school at UVA are somehow less capable of a business career. Quite likely that was not the criteria used for McIntire admission. There are many very successful non-McIntire grads in business.

There is nothing easy about it. Burying the data in the website is hardly being transparent. For example, if a PC manufacturer knew that 40% of the computers it produced would stop working after 2 years, you would want that to be the first thing they told you, not something buried in their website that you had to reverse engineer the data to figure out. This thread started in June and it wasn’t until 3 days ago that someone found the statistics. That kind of makes my point.

Moving past how easy it is to find or not find the data, why would anyone pursue a major at a school that does this when there are plenty of other good schools that don’t have a secondary admissions process that kicks out kids that are performing well in their major?

For those in-state, UVA provides a quality education at a very affordable price. For those out of state the equation is somewhat different.

Google “McIntyre acceptance rate”. Hardly buried.

Besides the fact that it doesn’t serve your narrative (and you raised it) why move on given its relevance to your basic claim of bait and switch.

You are also basing your presumption that every student rejected from M had committed to a major as an applicant. Many if not most kids don’t decide on a major (and many change majors) until that are matriculated students.

Once again those that don’t get into M receive a world class education that is extremely affordable in state and subsidized by VA taxpayers. Those students are highly marketable and successful. The school is entirely transparent.

Is it transparent? I understand McIntire admissions are holistic. Several students with stellar grades have been rejected to their surprise. Students likely overestimated the importance of grades in their application but the school should be clear as to what role if any those play.

Reminder that this is supposed to be a kind, friendly, welcoming community. Please refrain from the back and forth and personal attacks. Further comments will be deleted. Thank you.

I take your point. Transparent in that they describe a holistic approach along with acceptance rates and the stats of those accepted. All the information is provided but the “golden ticket” or “secret sauce” is not provided. It requires an individual assessment and consideration but “terms of use” are available.

Up to those with access to Google to decide.

A gpa range of 2.4 to 4.0 is not particularly helpful. For a few special applicants it would appear grades are not important at all. For the majority of applicants, given the average gpa of 3.74, it would appear close to a 4.0 is needed.

One might reasonably question how the school can assess emotional intelligence

The OP asked the question months ago. Old threads really shouldn’t be revived just for giggles. And the reviving simply resulted in turning into a debate dominated by a few users. Closing.
