Is UVA in my range?

I am currently a junior at a competitive private school. I have a 3.8 GPA and I am in the full IB diploma program. My school does not release class rankings, but I feel pretty confident that I am in the top 25%. My best SAT score thus far is a 1250.

These are the classes I am taking my junior year and will take my senior year:

AP/IB HL Modern Euro
Pre-Calculus
IB SL Mathematical Studies
IB HL Economics (micro and macro)
IB SL Environmental Systems and Societies
AP Biology
Honors English 11
IB HL English
IB SL Spanish
Theory of Knowledge

I have played varsity soccer since freshman year. I have also participated in varsity cross country since 10th grade. I play indoor soccer every winter. During my freshman year, I played elite soccer for a travel club.

I have over 100 hours of community service for different organizations.
I recently had a one week internship at a preschool for autistic children (I am interested in special education)

As an IB student I am required to write a 4,000 word extended essay. My topic is how ABA therapies affect the brain of a child with an autism spectrum disorder.

I am in the National Honors Society and the Spanish Honors Society. I have also participated in two leadership conferences after being nominated by teachers from my school.

I am in Spanish Club, S.E.A. Club, Battle of the Brains Club, and Youth and Government Club.

This summer I am spending three weeks abroad in Spain.

Next year, I will run for class office and I am in the running for varsity cross country captain. I am also organizing an event at my school to raise funds and awareness for autism and autism research.

UVA is one of my favorite schools. I am hoping that I am competitive enough for this school, but I realize it is very selective . Any suggestions for making me more competitive?

A) Are you instate
B) Work on your SAT or try the ACT
C) You’ll never know if you don’t apply

I am instate. I have been taking SAT prep classes and I just signed up to take the ACT. I will also be applying early action this fall.

Well then you look all good. Go for a 2100 or 32. UVA uses a holistic process which is very helpful to applicants who don’t stand out with high test scores.

UVa is very competitive for instate if you are from Fairfax County. Your schedule is challenging, your grades a pretty solid, your ECs are fine, but you need to get that SAT up - if you live in Fairfax County.

I don’t think UVA has quotas for specific regions, glido. You want to be a competitive applicant in general, and that SAT isn’t, but it wouldn’t be competitive anywhere in-state, and especially not out of state. (For the record, I live in NoVa now, but I went to high school in southern VA.) It is hard to stick out coming from a school where a ton of people (presumably) have high GPAs and SAT scores though, if that’s what you mean.

thanks for the advice! and i live in the richmond area.
