<p>I have been accepted by both schools and have visited the schools.
I am a science person and most likely gonna major in pre-med or biology.
When I was in UVA during the visit, it seemed to me that the majority of
the students were much involved in politics, history and some other
social science majors. While I was in UOR, the school provided the
opportunity for me to understand they have really organized pre-med/science programs and renown teaching resources. People keep on telling me that UVA is a better school than UOR, but I have a gut instinct that UOR is a better fit for my intended field of study.</p>
<p>Will people please advise on which school I should choose?</p>
<p>Congrats on both of your acceptances! Although there are a lot of social science majors at UVa, science definitely has a presence too. Some of the departments such as chemistry and physics are smaller, but biology is a pretty hardcore department and it was recently renovated with new lab facilities. In addition, the departments may be smaller, but there are some really great professors and interesting research going on as well. At UVa, there is no set premed major; thus, if you're premed, you can basically major in anything as long as you complete the prerequisites. As for premed resources, there's a career service center with prehealth advisors, upperclassmen that you can talk to, professors, deans, clubs/organizations that focus on volunteering, interviewing tips, study groups, the application process, medical student and speciality doctor panels, etc. Advice about medical school is endless especially since UVa has a medical school and hospital really close to campus. <p>I think very few people on this particular forum are going to suggest picking Rochester over UVA unless you have some compelling reasons. UVA grads have had no problem getting into med schools, so that particular concern is pretty much a non issue. </p>
<p>The question you have to answer is not which school is better for science, but rather, which environment do you believe will nurture your best individual performance? That makes it mostly a matter of personal preference.</p>
<p>You can't major in "pre-med" at UVA, there is no such major. Also, UVA has a great med school, so why not go to UVA and major in Bio, and then go to UVA again for med school?</p>
<p>none of us on this messageboard can answer your question. the answer to "Is UVa right for me?" varies for every single student and there is no generalized answer. Since you posted this is the UVa thread, the vast majority of the answers to your question will be "UVa has a great premed program! You should come here." In most cases, in fact, people in the UVa thread will say "Come to UVa!" for obvious reasons. (hint: look at the university thread you're in) Now, I'm not saying UVa doesn't have a great premed program (it does) but you need to make your decision yourself.</p>

I think you answered your own question but want everyone to affirm that you are making the right decision. UVa is a great school as is UOR; every school is wonderful in its own right. And a question for you: are those "people" you referred to going to college? Better yet, are they YOU going to college?</p>
<p>Be bold in your decision. Do what feels right; don't go to a school just because everyone says to and be miserable for 4 years. Be confident in yourself; you'll do well if you choose UVa or UOR. Good luck.</p>
<p>As a resident of Va and graduate of Rochester, I'll confirm your instinct about my alma mater's premed program. D opted not to apply to Rochester last year, but if she had had any interest in premed, I'd have encouraged her more. Their program is just too good.</p>
<p>UVA is a strong university too, but different from the U of R in size, student body, and location, so you might want to consider those factors also.</p>
