I know that UW has a good rep, but is it hard academically? Is it hard to do well at UW and get a good GPA?

Most intro classes are graded on a bell curve, with the average curved around a 2.8 or 2.9 (yes, we use a numeric grading system. No plus or minus letter grades!), so if you get stuck with a weeder class, it might be tough. Once you get beyond the intro classes though, I’d say you’re golden, unless you slack off. :)

I’m not quite sure. Two of my best friends are freshman right now and both were amazing academically in high school. One got there and went from a 4.0 student to a 2.9, while the other is at about a 3.8. All I can say is that you for sure have to work hard.

thewu is pretty much right…the big classes with 700 kids will be killer, but it should ease off later, I think. The thing about UW is that there are a LOT of über-smart kids, so it’s difficult to compete against them if you aren’t used to putting in the effort (I’m one of those lazy kids who has coasted so far…).
