i've heard everywhere that Vanderbuilt is the most conservative out of the southern schools. is it true?.... how is the student population in its acceptance of people, minorities, LGBT's, etc. who are out of the norm?

It is more conservative than a lot of schools but according to my daughter there don't appear to be any problems. Take it for what it's worth from the father of a poor, straight white girl... lol

a) it's Vanderbilt, named after Cornelius Vanderbilt
b) no it isn't that conservative, if you're talking about social norm. being gay is accepted widely in most colleges, as is being enormously liberal. so, political liberalism is very accepted there too, but it is at all colleges.

Take your top 20 schools. Vanderbilt is in the top 1 or 2 when it comes to the presence of Conservatives.

Take your Gay bar in NYC. You will have a stroke if you come here from there.

Take your Hunting lodge in Mountain Brook. Vanderbilt is significantly more liberal with a few folks of a Northeasterly persuasion that many of the members of said hunting lodge would be pleased to test their new Remington with/on

quite relative as you can see

I don't think Vandy is really as conservative as everyone thinks it to be. Most of the people I've encountered are Obama supporters.

Well, of course it's all relative. Take the stoner-types that live in Highland Quad, and you'll probably find a lot of liberals. Take the fratty crowd, you'll probably find a lot of conservatives. It's pretty much like most Southern schools. They tend to self-segregate.
