Is waiting long a good or bad sign?

I sent my app in on 9/26 and they got it by at least 10/26.

Here's my stats
ACT: 31 (32.25 if your take the best ind of the two times I got a 31)
SAT: 1290 (ACT better so I asume this won't matter too much
GPA: ~3.8 I think (88% or 89% with frosh) UW It would be a bit high with my frosh year but they don't count it for some odd reason
CR: upper 15%-17% guess (28 ACT avg from my HS, most competitive catholic school in IL period)

AP US History
AP PolySci
AP Bio
AP Calc BC
Honors math and sci track (but I didn't take AP Physics)

Good Recommendation and decent essays.

My GPA is all that's hurting me, but it's becuase my school is so tough. Anyways, I think it's just taking so long because they probably disagreed on accepting and rejecting me and they have to have the LSA board look over it. I think I should get in (50% chance), but if I don't I'll just go to U of I business and save $100k.

/<bump> anyone?</bump>

wondering the same thing. please someone with knowledge on this topic please respond.

From what I've read on the other U Mich threads, waiting 8-12 weeks for a reply is not unusual. My D's application was complete on 11/8; next Monday, that makes it 7 weeks and we are still waiting. Recall the enormous number of applications to be sifted through--as well as the very elaborate review process, and be patient.

Been waiting 12 weeks here with no news. Someone else here on CC claims to have gotten in after waitng four weeks but I question that. We called the admissions office.

I don't know what waiting so long has meant in other years, but this year just means that Michigan is taking its time and making decisions carefully. It means you fall in the middle, in that you're not one of the top candidates whom they are accepting thus far, and you're not one of the poorer candidates who have gotten a reject letter. There are many people in the middle who will eventually be admitted, and only time will tell if you're in that group.

Try not to read too much pessimistic news into the long wait. It's an unusual year for U-M.

it's a little of both. If you were a drop dead automatic admit at a school with rolling admissions you would "quickly" receive an admission ("quickly" is different for each school) ... so that is bad news. If you were a drop dead automatic reject at a school with rolling admissions you would "quickly" receive a reject ... so that is bad. The delay likely means you're a solid candidate for admission and they are waiting until they see more applicants to decide how to "fill out their community" for next year's freshman class.

I've been waiting for 12-13 weeks now as well! Many of my friends have applied as well, and many have recieved a decision in 4 weeks. A couple of them thought the envelope was just another UofM brochure - not a letter saying congrats!

I called the office a couple weeks ago and they said that I would have a letter by Christmas. I then called a week before Christmas and they told me not until January.

I think for sure that I'll either get deferred or accepted at this point. I'm definately not a strong strong candidate, but I honestly think I should get it. NOT just just barely but barely. I would wait a year as long as I get in. However, if I go to U of I (I got into business) then I'll save 100k and maybe convince my dad to get me my rsx-s with my cdt/tru tech sq sys.
