princeton claims its waitlist is unranked. does this mean they select applicants at random, or review the whole group? Or is there actually a ranking on the waitlist like 1, 2, 3, 4, ect...?

anyone's thoughts?
also if someone got accepted off the waitlist and did not expect it, please post your stats.

I believe that the university uses the wait list to find students to fill out the freshman class so that the class is diverse and represented in all areas. There is no ranked list.

If several accepted students that are musicians decline admission and the symphony orchestra is suddenly weak in woodwinds or violins admissions may look to take a musician off the wait list. Or if the acceptance rate of engineering students is unusually high admissions might want to accept more A.B. Degree candidates. I do not believe that acceptance off the wait list is random.

But, I could be wrong.

agreed, I believe it’s not random either. this sucks because I think I stand a better chance being picked at random than being assessed.

It sucks even more because I am from NJ, and there is obviously no shortage of applicants from there. also, they accept disproportionately higher number of students from jersey

anyone else opinion?
