Hey guys! Is Wake Forest University a good school? I'm asking this because i never heard of this school, until recently, so i want some opinions on this school. What programs are good at this school?

Wake just got in the USNEWS Top 25 this year and you have never heard of it? It came a long way for a southern school to reach the stardom. Wake was my dream school 38 years ago, I am still dreaming about it. I was interested in its Business program and I think it is still one of the bright stars in NC.

Wake Forest is a great school with a beautiful campus, sports, and a student body that is small enough to create a personal environment, but big enough that you won’t know everyone by the time you graduate. Everyone I know who goes there, including my best friend, absolutely loves it.

That sounds good, i wonder what are my chances of getting in. Considering that they have a new policy where you don’t have to submit SATs and ACTs until they accept you. ( My SATs scores aren’t that great, but i do plan on retaking them soon). But i do have a lot of extracurriculars like, swimming in school team, playing the viola in school symphony orchestra, some clubs (key, red cross), 200+ hours of community service outside of clubs and schools. Grades on the other hand are ok, considering that i have taken a total of 7 AP classes, and planning to take 1 other AP test, so 8. My community service involves helping children with autism and down syndrome (hmm…i wonder if that will help, because I’m planning on majoring in psychology). Exactly, what are my chances?

What’s your uw GPA and class rank or approx. percentile?

uhh…i’m a little too busy right now to calculate GPA (maybe another time), but i do remember my counselor telling me that my class rank was 190/530 (last year though). which puts me in 50th percentile?

190/530 is 50th %ile? I would guess math pulled your SATs down. Right now Wake is a reach for you. 75% of their class was in the top 10%. <a href=“Home - Office of Institutional Research”>Home - Office of Institutional Research; Section C10

Lol I would say if Wake is in the top 25, it’s pretty good.

But anyways it’s definitely a reach school for you looking at your class rank, but you do have some really nice extracurriculars.

People who spend time looking for love in all the wrong places (to borrow a phrase) need to spend more time with their guidance counselors and find a school that fits their profile better. Anyone who says they dont know their gpa is full of it. I am not being cutting here, I am trying to help someone who is barking up the wrong tree.

Find schools that fit your gpa/rank/Sat profile. There are LOTs of really good schools out there and they can be very helpful and help you succeed. Spend ZERO time worrying about rankings of colleges and prestige. Spend 100% of your time focusing on the right college for you.

I have a kid in a top tier school. I have another kid going to a tier three school which is a PERFECT fit. In fact, the tier three school has impressed me more…more caring, more personal attention, more support services (ADHD), and just a wonderful little school with fabulous people in a beautiful setting and really surprisingly strong academic programs, plus some extracurricular activities that are amazing. We are very excited to take our kid there this Saturday.

Wake is a fabulous school. Its only for the top students however.

thanks to US News people have started to look at wake forest differently. Group think lol and media remote controls

I actually don’t know much about Wake Forest although having been at NC for 4 years…but I do know my MIT roommate’s sister went to Wake Forest. She’s really hot! lol.
She works in DC doing something in politics and earning big bucks.

Most people have heard of Wake because of their athletics. If you don’t follow college sports, you’re less likely to have heard of it since its less than 5k undergrad.

Wakes Law School and Medical School are well known. So is its MBA program. All highly ranked.

excellent school, beautiful location.
However, like Erin’s Dad said, 190/500+ might not cut it at Wake.

Oh well i guess I’ll look into another school if its too hard to get in. But if i get good SAT or ACT scores soon then I will definitely apply to it because so many people here recommend it.

Wake Forest is SAT optional, so I don’t think they put much weight on it…but if you do really good, it’ll do nothing but help you. To give you some perspective though, I applied last year in the top 7% of my class, and got waitlisted. It’s competitive

Don’t worry, OP, you aren’t “full of it.” I definitely didn’t know my GPA throughout high school.

@herestothenights: did you submit your SAT scores when you applied? Did you get in after being waitlisted?

" But if i get good SAT or ACT scores soon then I will definitely apply to it because so many people here recommend it. "

If you are being serious, I am going to feel sorry for you. Just cause everybody here recommends it and it has some prestige doesn’t mean you should automatically apply there. Im sure everybody can recommend 100 other schools that are good…
You need to look deeper into the schools and find the one that best fits you and the ones you would be most happy attending. If Wake forest is, then apply there. If not…DONT.

I think there are two issues here:
- If Wake is suitable for OP. That question can only be answered by the OP, no one here can second guess that.
- Can a 190/500+ rank in a HS get in Wake? I’d say maybe. It all depends on the HS OP is going, if he goes to TJ or Lowell or some boarding school that are feeder to HPY type, yes, it is very possible, any garden style HS, he is not likely. My advise, ask OP’s HS’s GC and look at the Naviance, it will tell.
