Is Wake Forest right for me?

Hi,

So I understand that WFU is known as Work Forest and that it’s pretty rigorous. I am worried I will be stuck in the library all day every day because of this and I wont have a social life. Is Wake Forest this rigorous? Also, can someone give me an example of how much homework or reading is due on average per week? (For example: 100 pages per week, 2 papers) I come from a high school that’s really uncompetitive and everyone here lacks motivation. This year I am only taking 3 AP courses and 1 college level course. I’m afraid if I go to Wake Forest, I won’t be able to smoothly transition into the workload thats required. What do you guys think? And I am already accepted into Lehigh University. Will WFU be massively more rigorous than Lehigh?

Also, I’ve heard about WFU’s grade deflation. Can someone elaborate on what this is and how badly grades are deflated?

Thank you and sorry about long post.

PS: Forgot to mention, but I plan to major in business administration!!

Plz something help me

@darkhound173 First off, congratulations! Many people I am sure wanted to get into Wake this year who did not, so congratulations. Secondly, enjoy this period, being wanted is a nice thing. Thirdly, I went to Wake, you will work hard, you will also enjoy life, if you choose. You can go anywhere and work all the time, or you can go places, work hard and also relax. I did not go to Lehigh and probably no one will respond who actually experienced both schools so I would take contrasts with a grain of salt. All I can say is I went, I worked hard, I did well (I also went to a small school where I only had a few AP opportunities, 4 if I remember correctly) and I also was involved in a bunch of stuff. In my experience in now 4 different university cultures is that whatever a stereotype is in a school, people like to make that the truth in their experience. If you think it true, you make it true. That said, is average work load more than at some schools? Probably. Is it more than Lehigh? Not sure, that’s also a good school.

@CKDeac Thanks for the insight man! A couple more question if you don’t mind. How many hours on average did you spend on homework and did you find it hard to maintain a 3.2 GPA?

@darkhound173 Does cost of attendance make a difference? Campus? location? Both are rigorous schools, with dominant Greek Life.

I’m currently a freshman at Wake and I think the “Work Forest” reputation is undeserved. The average GPA here is a 3.1, which I think is about what the average GPA ought to be anywhere. I think if you just pay attention to what’s on the syllabus and plan accordingly, it is not terribly difficult to excel in any class.

@darkhound173 happy to be helpful, there’s lots of threads on this topic from the last few years if you cycle through c.c. I attended more than 5 years ago, so my input may be less applicable now anyway, but hours/class is a great question, but sadly no real good answer because it really just depend on the student. I did not find it hard to maintain a 3.2. Finding balance is key, talking with upperclassmen is key in order to balance your classes, but 3.2 is definitely doable, even in the majors that are considered “most rigorous”. Hope it helps, good luck in your decision and #GoDeacs!

@darkhound173 From the previous thread, you said you were wait listed at Wake Forest. Are you off the wait list?? Just wait listed here and didn’t think you could hear so soon.

If you aren’t willing to give it your all night and day in order for the eventual payoff, then wake might not be for you.

Why would you think that @mat324 ?

@Sam998 that’s just the impression that I got from my sister, who is currently a junior at Wake

@mat324 most Wake students are not having the same experience
