This is how it went down:
My counselor nagged me a lot to consider a women's college. I scheduled an interview & met a Wellesley alumna and on my way out, I said "if people go to Wellesley and turn out to be like her, I WANT TO GO THERE"
I am legitimately in love with Wellesley now :D
Sorry for the long intro. Here are my stats
SAT super score: 1990
CR: 610
Math: 700
Writing: 680
Toefl: 106
I graduated valedictorian last year.
I am an international student
& according to my interviewer, I'm the only one applying from my country.
My ECs are pretty strong, tho.
I was at the junior national team of my country (swimming) in ninth and tenth grade.
I then got injured, and stopped swimming. But now I'm training extensively for crew. I already row for a major club. & I'll be competing at nationals in January.
I did an outreach program at an underpriced rural village for five months. Now I teach at an illiteracy program with the rotary.
When I was in school, I founded two clubs. & I had an internship at a software company.
I also worked multiple part-time jobs.
& I traveled as an exchange student once & backpacked a lot.
I know that my weaknesses are probably the lack of academic accomplishment (I'm planning for ISEF, tho) & my low SATs..
But this really reflects who I am and why I am choosing Wellesley. I like to learn for the sake of education itself.. I do know what I want to major in, but I don't want my major to be THE only thing I know in life.
I really love Wellesley. But is it a reach??

I’m not an admissions officer, but you definitely sound like an interesting and accomplished applicant! Definitely go for it. I think you’d be great.

Awwh!
Thank u
I hope admission officers will think the same :)

it couldn’t hurt to contact the Wellesley crew coach.

Do I need to also send him an athletic r

I would think finding his/her email address and emailing is sufficient to get things started. You could also try calling if you can get a phone number.

My D is playing a varsity sport there and I believe after the coach contacted her the first time, she had her go to the lacrosse page on the Wellesley Athletics web-site to fill out a questionnaire for prospective athletes - sport specific (most schools have this). You could also do that…

Yep, there’s a link on the lower left hand side “Want to Wear Blue” I think it is in there http://www.wellesleyblue.com/sports/wcrew/index

I don’t know how toefl scores work but I think your sat is really good. Your cr is a bit low but for an international I think it’s good. Your activities sound well too. When you’re writing your why wellesley essay, mention the fact that the student body at Wellesley love learning for the sake of learning and that you too are the same, and perhaps give examples (if you have room). I’m applying to Wellesley soon also It’s on my list of top 3 colleges I want to go to

So in conclusion, I think you have a good chance of getting in :)

Thanks for the tip
Will definitely do!

Well, it depends a lot on whether you are from an English-speaking country or not (for evaluation of SAT scores).

And also on whether you have a heap of family money - Wellesley is not need-blind for internationals.

No, I am from a non-English speaking developing country…my SAT scores are pretty high compared to my peers…so yeah
&& I don’t have lots of family money…
All I could afford is like $17k…so I’ll need an almost-full ride to get in.
That’s why I was thinking Wellesley might be a reach.

With a 1310 math & reading SAT score & class valedictorian status, you should be admitted. Definitely not a reach for you. Great school, but single sex colleges need to work a bit harder to attract students. You’ll love Wellesley. Good luck.

P.S. Nevertheless, apply to several schools–especially if seeking financial aid which can be difficult for international students.

@axelrod: I’m applying to, at least, 11 schools
I know how hard it is for international students with financial need…
&& thanks for your feedback, everybody!!
You really boosted my confidence
I’ll just submit my application and hope for a fat envelop in April…
