Is Wellesley hard to get into?

http://www.wellesley.edu/InstResearch/Common%20Data%20Set%202009.pdf

So RD acceptance rate for 2009 was around 35% while ED acceptance rate was 59%! I know that the ED pool is self selecting but this gives me hope :3

I applied EE and was rejected upfront. EE has a 51% acceptance rate.
I was accepted to ivies/very upper league schools.
Wellesley definitely knew it was one of my first choices (it was 1 of 2 colleges I declared as my ‘first’ choice for National Merit Finalist).

I had very, very high stats and was very surprised. I talked to someone from the office who says she said she didn’t think I was a good “fit.”

So you never do know :0

How much importance does Wellesley place on GPA? I take the most rigorous schedule at school and have a 3.6 unweighted. I looked this up online and most of the applicants had 3.8’s and above. However, I have also heard of people with 3.5’s and 3.6’s getting in.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi, everyone.

I’m still reeling from your rejection, Zinthafan… Congratulations on all of your great acceptances, however!

Just a suggestion: I think that a really nice thing you could do for next year’s applicants would be to post and/or update your stats and results in the Stats Profile section (Click on the link at the top of this page). When my daughter and I were researching schools last year, we found it extremely helpful to see the profiles of everyone who was or was not accepted.

Let me start by saying 1) I got into wellesley. 2) I’m going there. 3) i’m working in admissions.

Wellesley is extremely difficult to get into. Many of my friends from high school, got into Cornell and other ivys and were rejected by Wellesley. Wellesley looks for more well rounded girls. To give you a breakdown of stuff I did:

3.5 cumi, unweighted. (Low, i know, but i had an insane courseload)
11 APs, National AP scholar.
Best science student in the school, 2 years in a row.
Made my own online bakery, 100% nonprofit to donate to a relief organization i work with
Robotics team president and CEO 2 yrs. did it for 4 years. Off that, I went to a K-12 private school. I started robotics teams for every grade, and coached and mentored them all.
Pianist, 8 yrs.
XC and track runner,
I lived in Japan for the summer before my senior year, as an exchange student.
Math Club, 8 yrs.
Student Government, every year of high school,

My essay was about religious persecution that forced my family to leave our country of origin, and how it inspired me to help others in our community.

Wellesley cares that you are a well-rounded, unique person. Other girls that applied from my school, and from other public schools in my area did generic things. One was a great runner, XC state top 10 ever year, but I went to a small school. She didn’t do anything else. She had great grades, and an interesting essay, but she lacked depth. I guess my best advice to anybody looking at the school is BE UNIQUE. Be creative, and show that you are more than numbers, because I can guarantee you, the more interesting person will get in.

@myrahahmad, I am going to Wellesley too! I’m interested in working in admissions and was wondering how you found that job already. Thanks!
