My brother, who has won some major FPS tournaments, wants to show his distinguishing aptitude and enthusiasm in FPS gaming in college admission. Although I sometimes saw students who did well in chess tournaments showed their achievements in chess in college admission, I've never seen a student like my brother. Do universities evaluate winning FPS tournaments just like they do for winning chess tournaments?

Short answer - no. Chess is an intellectual and disciplined pursuit; video gaming is not.

What do you mean by “major”? I definitely would not put down winning something like a regional-scale tournament, unless maybe he was world-class or pulling in several grand, in that case I would think it might be at least worth a mention.

It would make a refreshing essay, and might help if his academic stats are amazing. But if his academics are below par, the gaming won’t help him, in fact it might push him under.

Are we talking MLG tournaments or just some loosely put together things
