Is withdrawing from a class a bad idea?

Hey, guys! So i am currently a freshmen, first semester of college. I am a biology major but am changing this to criminology. My minor is gender/sexuality studies.

I am considering withdrawing from my biology and lab class. I didn't do too hot on the first test. I got a low c on it.. and if i end up changing my major, then the class wont even be counted for anything on my transcript.

Would it look better to get a possible C in the class, or get a W?
Consider that it wont do anything for me once i change my major.

thanks!
also, i am currently taking 17 hours.
the class im dropping is 3 hours ( it may be 4 including lab.. im not sure)

Are you sure that bio won’t count for anything on your degree? It would usually be a gen ed requirement or an elective towards the hours needed for graduation. So I don’t get where it “wont even be counted for anything on my transcript”. I would stay in the class as long as possible. Only withdraw if you are absolutely sure you need to.

The class is made for pre-bio and pre-med students only. When you take the class, they tell you unless that is your major, it will not be counted for anything.

Most schools have bio for non majors where it counts as a gen ed and the true bio 1 is counting for bio/pre med majors only.

17 credit hours is already quite a bit with 14 being the usual first semester course load. Either way you would be good. I would say drop it, but your not doing so badly in it that you couldn’t continue and pass the course in case you ever wanted to switch back to bio major. If I were you, I would drop the bio and take the W, because it would free you up for the other courses

I would give it a couple more weeks (depending on when your school’s withdrawal period ends). I was in the same boat as you last semester, but only because I was failing bio, and I’d rather take the W than the F. 17 is quite a bit for your first semester. If you really don’t think you’re going to do bad in it, I would take the W. If you think you can pull through it, go ahead. If it would count as a gen ed or elective and you would have to take it anyway, that’s one thing, but if it’s just for your major, the W is better than a possible failing grade.

Talk to your advisor about this before doing anything.
Also, have you tried Going to Prof Office hours, forming a study group, getting tutoring?

im not worried about my grades. i know i can make a high b/a in the class. i just dont want to bust my aaa for a class that wont count for anything.
