i'm applying to competive schools (upenn, cornell, nyu etc), and i'm hoping that battle of the bands will be an appropriate topic. teamwork, cooperating, etc. it's just that...the topic itself is kind of weird topic for a competive school, wouldn't you think?

btw, this is for naming an experience that wasn't on your resume that you believe was a big thing for you.

I think it's very legitamite. If you organized a Battle of Bands, it shows leadership capabilities. If you played in one, it shows musical talent. Either way, it shows the schools that you have a life and that you are involved with things beyond academics.

I'm learning guitar, and I wrote a few essays about that (specifically the "what do you do for fun?" question for Penn). I think writing about music experience (guitar in my case, battle of the bands in yours) is a bit unconventional, but can really show off a person's character and their interests. I say go for it.

bump..would appreciate more input. thanks
