Is WUSTL's finaid bad? Other schools?

Just call and explain your situation - Hell, have your parents talk to the financial aid counselor about their specifics (they know more details than you I'm guessing), and they'll work with you. I had a similar situation this year (decreased aid by $10,000, but got them to give back $8500 after further consideration).

My parents make about $160k, and I talked to the finaid office and they gave me $15k a year in scholarships, a work study job, and the rest in subsidized loans. They also told me that since my brother is going to college next year my EFC would be cut in half. They were really amazing. They seemed to be looking for ways to save me money.

Good news guys! The FinAid listened to what I had to say, had my mom email them and then not only replaced the money that they had previously given, but also added some more!! I'm so thankful :)

How is the aid for transfers?
I'm looking to transfer after my freshman year, parents make around $80,000

WashU's financial aid was awesome for me... my family is in the $110,000 - $130,000 range and I got a $21,000 grant. Additionally, I applied for a merit scholarship - I got a half-tuition ($18,100) scholarship from that, but they didn't reduce my initial $21,000 grant... so I ended up with nearly $40,000 in grants. No complaints whatsoever. Plus, the people from the financial aid office are willing to work with you if you call... I know lots of people who have. If you're accepted, they really want to help you be able to attend.

intotheairwaves,

are you an incoming freshman or transfer? I had been told that transfers were ineligible to apply for merit awards--that the merit scholarships were just for incoming freshmen.

thanks

here: Transfer Students

it doesn't appear that merit scholarships are awarded to transfer students. wustl offers a merit scholarship for students applying from St Louis community colleges, i guess for community outreach and investing in the STL area (Scholarships)... but otherwise it's all need-based for transfers, and that seems to work the same as if you were applying as a freshman which is nice.

Thank u, jcool...
