Is Yale JD/MBA (with the SOM) worth it?

Hi everyone, hope all is well... hope that the CC community can help give some advice on something that I've been playing around with. I'm currently a 1L at yale law, and am strongly considering also pursuing a business degree for a myriad of reasons (personal interests, changing careers later in life, etc.).

What is your opinion of the accelerated JD/MBA program at Yale? Is it worth it?

Or, is it more worthwhile to finish up the 3 years at Yale Law, work for a few years, re-evaluate, then apply? (at this point, I'd ideally like to end up at Harvard or Stanford or something to make the additional 2 years worthwhile)

Or, stop dreaming and just get the JD - starting up your own company or whatever doesn't really require that MBA

Thanks in advance for your advice!

ben,

I know a number of NYU JD/MBAs who might have some advice, if you were in the city in the next few weeks.

Yale SOM is such a small class (~200/year) that it’s difficult to characterize, and there might be only 2 or 3 JD/MBAs each year. ‘worth it’ is entirely dependent on what you want to do.

So, give us some background on why you’d want the MBA as well as the JD (as well as, why you’re getting the JD if what you really want is the MBA), and it’ll make our diagnosis much more useful.
