I am having this problem where there are so many dumb people here. Not just in academics, but they lack basic common sense. I thought colleges were about intelligence. Anyways just wondering if you have alot of unintelligent people. It is also dissapointing for some of you who have also worked so hard to get into these colleges and wonder how these kids get in.

hahaha... sure, "dumb people" are everywhere...oftentimes, i think we all found out WE are the "dumb people" at times (if you haven't, either wait...or take a humility pill!)
Seriously, though... you'll find people lacking in what you consider common sense no matter where you go....
what kind of stuff are we talking about here?

The "real" world is like this in general. Most human beings are "stupid." Specifically, human beings are imperfect. Once you realize that, you'll be a lot happier.

sure... anyone that ****es me off is an "idiot".

Yeah, I think the same is true for anyone. Ever notice how everyone thinks everyone else is an idiot?

My son says the same thnig about his school. I think it's a legitimate complaint, or that it seems to be legitimate. His problem is primarily with the guys on his floor so he's had to make friends on other floors and other places around campus. Serious students are out there, but you have to seek them out. It's all part of freshmen life. Now if you're a junior or a senior and still feel the same way, it may be time to transfer.

I have the SAME problem. Immature, overdramatic idiots=my entire floor.

there are idiots everywhere. even at top colleges.

"Is your college filled with idiots?"

Yes.

I find it hard to have an intelligent conversation with almost everyone I've met so far.

i think everyone would be suprised about how many "stupid" people there are everywhere, even at top schools. some people just lack common sense. one of my best friends who is very intelligent thought oregon was a shape, not a state. and she goes to nyu stern!

I sometimes feel like I'm surrounded by idiots.

all the time.

If your college isn't filled with idiots, it's probably a school holiday.

Maybe she thought you said Octagon, not Oregon. This is going to sound soooo racist, but is she an Asian immigrant? I go to NYU and have met lots of Stern kids who know lots about how to make $$$, but not much about anything else.

Hmm, EVERYONE in your school's an idiot? I doubt even most people are. Unless everyone on this threads a genius who ended up going to their safety school because of money issues and now feels superior to everyone at college.

Almost exclusively filled with idiots...

Haha, honestly, the older I get, and the deeper I get into college, the more I realize how depressing the world is for truly intelligent people...Once you really understand how dumb mankind is as a whole, and how little anything matters...it gets a little sad. =(

On top of that, I'm currently in a Community College transferring into a large school next semester, and being here really makes you see how many dumb students there really are...I find some of my classes consist of retarded questions, than actual lecturing. Idiots hinder the learning experience, as the more these people take up your valuable class time, the less you tend to pay attention(And that is the negative aspect of a CC).

I like to make the distinction between idiots and stupid people. Stupid people were not genetically endowed with intelligence, but they still might be interesting or respectable people. Idiots don't care about learning anything and are anti-intellectual or anything intelligent. The only thing worse is the stupid idiot. You want to avoid having a conversation with this person at all costs.

No actually it's filled with unbearably smart people, geniuses that waste their potential playing WoW and neglecting personal hygiene. :(

But they're good to have as lab partners though and most of them can start off interesting conversations.

I won't lie... I am actually an idiots :).
