Hi! I feel as though the question explains itself, but I’m currently a sophomore in hs, and with Yale Young Global Scholars applications opening up, I was wondering whether anyone could share their experiences w/ the program. I have a single mom, and while we’re certainly not a lower-income family, I personally feel like $6300 for a summer program is quite a bit. Please elaborate on you or your child/friend’s experience(s), I’m really curious. All the kids that ended up going to ivies at my school did YYGS, so I’m curious as to whether it’s a prestigious program worth mentioning on college apps? Thanks so much.
My son did YYGS this past summer and it was one of the best experiences of his life! He was challenged academically and met some incredible people. I would recommend it if you genuinely want to have this sort of experience. Yes, it would look good on a college application but that should not be the primary reason to participate. Not all of the students go on to Ivy colleges either. It is a very interesting, diverse student body. Good luck!
Do it if you want a good experience. From my friends who’ve done it, I’ve heard that it’s a lot of fun, but don’t expect it to push your son’s application through. Like most pricey college summer programs, YYGS doesn’t add very much to a resume.
