My son took the ISEE for the first time last week, and got a 9-9-9-5. (5 being in verbal).
From what I’ve read, this is a good score, but what I don’t know is how good is it–do a lot of people get scores similar to this, and what does it mean about his application process?
Do schools care about this score, or is it a side note in their application, and what does this score say to people when they see it (gifted, very gifted, etc–)
I don’t know anything about private school admission process. My son wanted to go to a private school here in Los Angeles at the last minute. He’s miss the dealine for most schools in this area. Should I send schools where he’s missed the deadline his scores anyway?
@teddyleigh I’m not going to give you “hell” LOL! Schools do care test scores to a certain degree. As far as I’m concerned, they are used as a validation mechanism of school records since the rigor of different schools can be so different and an A in school A could mean very different things from an A in school B. ISEE/SSAT scores is also a good predictor for future SAT/ACT performance, which will affect the college admission outcomes.
For schools your son missed the deadlines, did he send in his application? In some schools, late applications are put in the WL pile automatically. In others, those that have rolling admission or don’t get a lot of applications, a late application may just be as good as any other. If he has applied, you should definitely send his scores in. Otherwise his application would be considered incomplete. Hope this helps.
The OP knows it is a good score …no comment. “What does this score say to people when they see it (gifted, very gifted etc)”. A 99th percentile on the SSAT and ISEE doesn’t mean your kid is gifted. These tests can be taught and taught to, they are also a reflection of what has been learned.
Before you send scores to schools where he has missed the admissions deadline, you should contact them directly and ask if it is too late to file an application. Some schools review on a more rolling basis and at others you would be wasting your effort and money.
